Administrators gav240z Posted February 2, 2009 Administrators Posted February 2, 2009 Sorry gav, I was also waiting for the first one on auction to finish but the devil got it but now i should finally have a stroker crank after years of looking and various americans screwing me around :S If anyone has any other ideas for shipping from new zealand to australia that would be great No problems mate, to be honest I shouldn't be buying parts while I'm overseas working. I should be spending my money on getting an electric guitar . Got a quote to get a stroker crank shipped today, $650!!!! Looks like I'll be looking into alternative options. It is actually cheaper for me to fly over to New Zealand and fly back with it :S I am more than open to any ideas.... Bummer, I'm sure Nzeder would have some ideas, he always sneaks stuff like that across our borders lol. Quote
NZeder Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Bummer, I'm sure Nzeder would have some ideas, he always sneaks stuff like that across our borders lol. lol once I took the following items with me to the UK 1 x Datsun 5 spd gearbox (dog leg pattern for A series aka 1200) = 23KG 1 x Datsun twin SU on oval port manifold for a A series 2 x Datsun 160J 710 rear side glass And all that was in the same trip but that was only because I was also going to the USA and they have larger weight limits (did not tell them at check in that I would be leaving some 32KG in UK) There are no current plans for a visit to Melbourne - but I am sure there will be one trip sometime this year so if you are in no hurry the old hand luggage trick can work - might have to make a trip to keep my airpoint status up above qantas gold membership Quote
NZeder Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 The only issue with a crank and hand luggage is damage - I am not an engine expert so maybe someone else can comment - but don't want to get it bent by some rough luggage handlers and conveyor system. So I think the best option might be in a container with a bunch of Spa's Quote

If only I had done this last year, I flew over in July for a holiday. I imagine putting it in a small ply box would be fine. NZeder Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 That crank of mine has been sitting covered in oil/grease in the garage for a year or two so you could have had in July - although was not thinking of selling it then but everything can be for sale at the right price. If you want LD28 stuff - keep an eye out on trademe.co.nz whole engine go for $500 NZD and from time to time a crank for $250. I think I have some plywood that I could make box up for the crank - will add some weight to the already heavy 20KG but would be a safer bet for shipping or luggage anyway. Quote
