Mr240z Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Can someone help me on this topic I have just replaced all the suspension rubbers in the car front and rear with Noltec All 4 shocks have been replaced with Koni Reds and lowered King springs Also added a Whiteline rear sway bar and also Tie rod ends, Ball joints have been replaced My question is why does it not drive like it should (new) Bump steer (yes) under steer (yes) hits ruts or pot holes and its all over the place. Help me please. Or would it be best to take it to a place like Heasmans in Sydney to work it out all is there somewhere in Sydney they can recommend. If i need to pay allot of money so be it. nat0_240_chevZ Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 bump steer causing the railroading, will ride and follow ruts especially when on uneven surface. re-located the lca pivot to help ease the sympton. otherwise get used to it. have you had a wheel align done since you replaced all bits n pieces??? nat0 Quote
Scoota G Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I spoke in length on this topic with the company that ordered in and fitted my rims. I had a very small problem which turned into a real Cluster Fudge because of a fault with the suspension that was Diagnosed wrongly by the "Wheel alingment Specalists" who these guys farm their work out to. The story is that very few people know how to set up suspension setup's the right way because all the older guys who knew what they were doing are retiring and the young crew coming in have Zero expierence and it's only "Just a job" to them. To get to the point i think it's worth spending more Bucks to get your setup right by someone with the knowledge and it may take some time to perfect, i think if you ask anyone here that there would be few who are 100% happy with their setup. Go to enough people and you'll end up witha certain guy that people will talk about in your area who is Capable. Quote
Mr240z Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Yes i,ve had a wheel alignment. It drives straight but when a hit some unsmooth road its all over the place. I,m running 14/6 inch wheels with 205/60/14 on the fronts & 225/60/14 on the rears There is a bit of movement in the walls of the tyre's when pushing the side of the car I thinking of buying the Rota grids 16x8 inch off Benzed running 205/55/16 & 225/50/16 Will that help out. Thanks nato Quote
NZeder Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I would talk to the guys at Steward Wilkins Motorsport in Sydney they will know how to fix it they have done lots of work on zeds over the years Quote
sco_aus Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 If all else fails, bring it to Queanbeyan (next to Canberra) and take it to Inline steering and Suspension. Why? Becuase Chris the guy who owns it has a many many years of setting up race cars (he did all the suspension work on my datto). He even has experience in F1 and has one of the best alignment machines in the country.. worth the drive. Scott Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I've got my car booked in for getting exactly the same suspension overhaul as Pauly. After reading this I'm wondering if its worth the trouble of lowering it? How do you compare driving it now to before Pauly? Quote
Mr240z Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 Stevo 100% with the Konis and new bush,s .Drives great heaps better than before. Just brought new Rota Grids off Benzed today 16x8's with the correct tyres it might keep to road better (stay tuned next week for wheel update) looking into fixing the bumpsteer problem (moving the controll arms up and out) Waiting to hear back from enzo250GTO Have a look here (good read) http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1257.0.html Sounds like it might fix the problem (fingers crossed) p.s Love the Koni red,s there GREAT MATE Pauly Quote
RBZ 260 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I had the same problem (suprise suprise) had the steering check numerous times and apperently its all good. preety much same symptoms on smooth road no problem as soon as its rough or changing level u got to fight with it. even though i got a similar mod to what enzo250 had in his other post i got it pushed out fr more negative camber still had issues. the wheels i had on were 205/50/16. even addad a wheel spacer. it improved but still not much of an improvment. than gave up. once i installed my 17x8 rims with 235/45 tyrese (new tyres) the problem disapeared. dont think the wheels played much but the new tyres fixed the problem now i can drive the car at high speed on crapy roads just holding it with one finger. before i had white knuckles from holding it tight and trying to keep it straight. stevo_gj Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Hey Pauly! I'd love to hear how the new wheels are treating you. Quote
Mr240z Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Stevo tried them on georges car the other day, to hot to keep working. Plains for today, but it hasn't stop raining all morning (rain on an RDO, WTF) Maybe this afternoon. Here's a pic of george's beast Quote
620Z Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Pauly as you may know Zeds are natorious for bad bump steer especially if it has been lowered and has wide tyres. Your problem of wondering all over the road on a lumpy / bumpy road will never go away till you address this problem. Some live with it. Well most live with it. But when your daily driver is perfect it drives you crazy stepping into the Zed. There has been a few forum's discussing this issue at length in recent times. Have a read of them. Good luck. Quote
