Scoota G Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Hi Folks, The last thing i want to do is sound like a man with a squirrel running up and down his pants but if i'm running a N42 Head and 280ZX Electronic Ignition what plugs should i be running? Cause the 280's run a different plug is all. Quote

XRQTR Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Ye I'm running the 6ES-11's but I'm thinking of trying a hotter plug as they keep fouling up. Quote
Cdr Zero Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I was reading the Hakosuka restoration thread on the JNC forums and he tried a few different plugs on his L28. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1600&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=hakosuka&start=210 Cheers Quote
aegean Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 For a daily driver, 6ES is best. For a casual driver/infrequent use, 5ES. Quote
dazzed Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 also greatly depends on the condition of the motor, eg, a high or higher compression engine that over standard may require a colder range plug, whereas a low comp or tired motor will require a hotter range plug, compression plays a major role here, i just fitted fives to a triple webered powered l28 as it matched the characteristics of the motor better than sixes Quote
XRQTR Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Just read the article, thanks CDR, just wondering if anyone has tried the iridiums and if so how they found them, I'm going to replace with a set of 5's later and might just buy a set of 4's to try out as well, in the regular plugs of course not that rich LOL. Mr240z Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Yes I,ve used Iridiums ,cost me $120 for a set of 6 (wholesale price) And they foul up the same as normal plugs .Waste of money for the older motors They where made for new cars that you cant get to them easy (removing manifolds etc too change plugs) Stick to normal NGK,s and you can change them regularly aswell for peace of mind Dont tear up money on Iridums and thats my 2c worth Pauly Quote
sydney mike Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Those that turned up to our last meet will recall my Zed was running like a pig due to fouled plugs. Removed and inspected they were very black and wet. They were Denso VW16R-A13's (Iridium) fitted by previous owner. Went to my local trusty Robbo's store and was told that the Denso's were not a good choice. He asked me about how I use my Zed, which is I am lucky to drive it once a week and if it has points or electronic ignition. So for electronic ig & regular use he suggested the BP6ES-11 but since I have points & hardly drive it he recommended BP5EY. $3.95 each & Bobs your uncle.
