ol_skl_jp Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hey guys Im trying to come up with some ideas to connect a chock onto my dellortos. Reason being they are very hard to get started in the morning, Im in the process of cleaning and running new kits through them, 2 down 1 to go. Hopefully this will help with the cold starting. If you could post up some pics on your set up that would be cool, i want to keep the setup as neat as possible. Thanks Sach Quote
XRQTR Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'll be tackling that this weekend when the Mikunis go back in, I plan to use the factory choke cable if I can but trim back the cable sheath to allow one of the cable to run 2 carbies, although I think in the end it may be one cable running all 3. The other option of course would be to go for an aftermarket choke assembly, most speed shops should carry something that will do the job sufficiently. Quote
modular9 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Wot i did - supercheap choke cable out through the original aperture in the fire wall. - Bends around to the front dellorto - My setup has a lug and crimp setup on the front one that clamps the outer sheath but lets the inner wire go - then simply hook up the chokes in tandem. - Important thing i had to do was to add a massive spring to the return of each choke cos even though when i put the choke off the end one stayed slightly on . I think I have pics in my gallery of the dellortos . But then i am in QLD and therefore dont need cold starting help so rarely used it when i had the dellortos on. Quote
ol_skl_jp Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 I'll be tackling that this weekend when the Mikunis go back in, Please post up pics when you have finished. Modular9 can i trouble you for close up pic of choke setup please. Thankyou Sach Quote
XRQTR Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Here's what I did using the original choke lever twin cable set up, you will need to cut part of the cable and sleeve in order to keep it as short as thereby straight as possible, I fed it through a hole in the firewall that is almost directly behind the carbies. Here is the rear most carby the one cable operates both the rear carbies and the front runs off of the second cable note the cable wrapped around the fuel line, this is so that the cable doesn't fowl the throttle arm keeping it well clear, it would cause a step in the throttle which could have also jammed the throttle open. Yes I know the filters are filthy but I will be getting the ITG one soon, this one Quote
modular9 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 sorry forgot about this thread. Will be getting the whole kit and kaboodle out soon so will get some pics for you as soon as... I promise ! Do you want pics of the setup into the cabin ( basically goes through the same aperture as the original choke cable did ). XRQTR : Hmmmm ITG <droool > filters. The only filter that might stop me going CAI. Quote
ol_skl_jp Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Dont worry modular9 i had totally forgotten about it either havent had much time to brainstorm ideas, since uni started. XRQTR thanks for bringning the topic back up, like the setup was also thinking running two cables to keep it simple. I want to see them on tripple dello's. **ITG filters are freakin hawt** Quote
XRQTR Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Let me know if you're keen on the filters as I will be in touch with the Oz rep soon to order mine (possibly the next few days). They aren't cheap though I think that one in the pic was around the $350-$400 mark but that was last time I spoke to him last year so where they are now is anyones guess. Quote
warrenz Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 In my opinion you do not need to connect the choke. I can get mine to idle after about 30 secs of coaching with the acc pedal and then you can drive off. Warren Quote

Warren See Warren i can eventually get it started but it is very hard takes about 5mins give or take just turning the key and pumping the gas. I fear my battery will run flat before i can get it started. Quote
Scoota G Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Not to steal the thread but how did those 52 idle jets work out for you warrenz? I had a C U Next Tuesday of a time starting my ride until i changed the idle jetsbut now just as wazza says just start and massage. Quote
modular9 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Well here is a small runthrough of how i have gone about it. Excuse my leet ps skills !! Basically it is pretty easy to use and looks right as well. The only problematic area was keeping the cable away from the fusible link area and the spark plugs. Quote
Hunter Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Picture serves it's purpose and is very clear. I can see it being very useful for future members. Quote
zr240 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Im with Warren I have never run a choke on any of my triple carbie zeds. They alla start with a few pumps on the thottle and seam to stabalize very quickly affter start up Ash Quote
reverendzed Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Hey Sach, I ran chokes on my Mikuni's, came up with some great answers for attaching them etc, only to find that once they were tuned right I didn't need chokes after all! As the other guys have said after about 30 secs everything ticks along nice! Rev. Quote
modular9 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 oh i dont use the chokes on the dellortos ... The original poster wanted to know how to do it. I had them all nicely connected but used only once and never again. Quote
