RBZ 260 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 erm some low life scumbag tried flogging my car last friday. the car is parked at my work in a busy carpark that i can see through my office window and still tried to steal it. though the bastard didnt get in (screwdriver job doesnt work on z as well as on commondoors) but he did manage to make a mess out of my lock and door. now im going to remove the locks and weld the holes. wont stop them getting in but at least it will stop them damaging the panels. god help them if i bust them. he wont have any hands to even eat with and not try steal another car. mayhem Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 thats the main reason why i did it sorry to see something like that happen to your car at least you still have it!!! Quote
620Z Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Yeah not good news RBZ. But Mayhem is right look on the bright side, at least they didn't get the car. Then you would really be peaved. I had the same thing happen to my car about 5-6 years ago outside a Pub. They got in but the alarm would have gone off and it wouldn't have started anyway. I was just so glad it was still there. RBZ 260 Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 yeah i know lucky i still got it but that doesnt suprise me cause only way that car will be moved without the correct procedure and the remote is on a flat bed truck. the immobiliser is my own custom job and its a complete nitemare to get through even for me. its the damage the wankers leave that pisses me off. now im thinking getting the whole car live. having a high voltage coil pack pulsing every few mseconds. so next time they touch it they get a nasty sting. feel sorry for parking inspectors but still wouldnt mind catchin the bastard and smashing his every finger with a hammer. so he never tries it again. JP240z Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Yeah seeing as though its a modified zed you won't go upsetting any loyalists by shaving the door locks and electrifying it. Keyless entry is really the only way to go, it doesnt stop it, but it certainly acts as a deterant... Sorry to hear about the door though, its a real ball breaker when they do enough damage to piss you off, but not enough to make the increased premiums caused by an insurance claim worthwhile.. Plan B, would be to insure your car for so much that you can beg people on the street to steal it. Either way I think this may not be such a bad thing in the long run as it will probably urge you to make your car more secure, and it didnt take them stealing it to show you.. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I did the same thing to my TX-3 4WD turbo when I had it. It was a popular car for thieves. Stolen one night outside of work, and recovered the next day undamaged. A week later the locks got popped again, but they couldn't get it started after making a mess of the (brand new) ignition switch. Next weekend I shaved the locks off, and never had a problem for the rest of the time I owned the car. If you can see the car out your office window, and have a computer, you could set up a webcam to take a photo every second or 2. You could even put a little sign in the window of the car that says this car is under video surveillance from a nearby office. Should be enough to deter the casual thief. Or you could set up a dedicated system. I have a zoneminder system running at home that watches the house and the driveway, using old computer parts (Pentium 3 800mhz), and a couple of webcams I picked up at a swap meet for $1. Zoneminder is free: www.zoneminder.com I can login from work and keep an eye on the house when no one is home. Easiest way to get it up and running is to download the "ZoneMinder LiveCD v1.22.2" half way down the page in the Other Downloads section here: http://www.zoneminder.com/downloads.html Quote
RBZ 260 Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 yeah that looks like good cheap monitoring i will look into that.thanks. my manager is a classic car nut and he brings his mg as daily. so he got bit concerned of the news that mine got attacked. door locks will be deleted. im not too fussed about the concourse people. its my car and dont plan to sell it so i want it how it suits me. just sucks that theres is so much low life scumbags that will not work hard to get what they want but go easy way and steal someone elses hard work. thats the problem with this country crooks have more rights than people who defend their property. FuzzyDropbear Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 thats the problem with this country crooks have more rights than people who defend their property. And ain't that truth! I really don't get how so many people get away with only a minor slap on the wrist. Crime really does pay these days! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 18, 2008 Moderators Posted June 18, 2008 I think the best thing to do with the "person" who tried to steal your car is first tape them up good, take them in the car they tried to steal to somewhere far away, tie em up again more securely and leave them for dead. Imagine, everyone does it, no more car thieves! Or you could perch yourself on a high rise roof with a snipers rifle.... so many choices... Quote
reverendzed Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 or....you could be reaaaalllly thankful that you still have your car....and move on! The world is full of people with values different to ours and for everyone you seek vengeance for another one has sprung up to replace them! So...hop in your Zed give thanks to God that we even have the most superior car on the road.....and lay some rubber! Rev. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 18, 2008 Administrators Posted June 18, 2008 Sorry to see this. I know exactly how you feel. I had people reverse into my Z twice and drive off. Once it dented the bumper, second time the bonnet was bowed. I was furious that they drove off. It was when I was working in a Video Shop part time while at Uni. I could just imagine some "Volvo Driving Soccer Mom" in her over priced 4x4 (never been off road) doing it too. Makes me furious still. Its all about Karma. I did the same thing driving my mum's Tarago trying to get out of a tight spot. Its really hard to see how far back those van's go. Anyway I knocked a Daewoo checked for damage, couldn't see any, but left a note anyway with my contact number. Never heard from them, but I hope they were grateful. Karma will get them someday. I think it was in Pulp Fiction where Travolta says if only I caught the Fecker in the act . I think we all know what we would do . Quote
aegean Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 The worst part is when they hit your car, get out, write a note (to pacify the lookers on) and then leave a note saying they hit your car, but DON'T leave their name or number - as happened to me once ! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 18, 2008 Moderators Posted June 18, 2008 I know there will be others out there that will never respect other peoples property, but it bothers me in the fact that you cant leave your car unlocked for a moment without vultures circling around waiting for that moment. That's why the zed will never be left in a public carpark if I can help it! I want to enjoy it for a few more years! There have been a few times with my first zed were people hit my car, didn't leave a note but luckily others saw it and left me a note on my windscreen. A Citipower van comes to mind who didn't realize his van rear bar hit my rear wheel arch while he was reversing. A passerby saw it, left a note, I read it and while the guy was still working up on a power pole, asked him politley to come down and show him the damage. Thankfully they are all insured. I know if I see something, I'll be leaving some info.... Quote
RBZ 260 Posted June 19, 2008 Author Posted June 19, 2008 i can probably look the other way when it comes to other things. but when it comes to cars and expecialy nice ones i get furious. i personaly worked hard on that door making it perfect spent hours and hours and than this low life F#@ked it up in matter of few seconds. it just drives you insane. it makes it that much harder to get over when u did the work your self. because you know what you have to go through to make it perfect again. I know Rev said thank god for this and that and the car is still there and can get fixed. Problem is its going to happend again and most probably by same tosser. the damage is not big enough for insurance but big enough to annoy the hell out of me. if i can only bust them ill drive their screwdriver through their hand and than hammer every finger till theres no bone left. probably slowly and painfully as much time as i spent fixing that door. I made the car safe and im pretty sure it will not leave the spot i parked it in. but it doesnt guarantee that it will be in same condition i left it in. if people were allowed to take revenge on these low lifes there wouldnt be so many in first place. To me god help them if i bust them. Quote
mistyrain Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Bugger, If you have prepared and painted your own car then it sure hurts, I can sympathize with you there. The webcam idea is a good one. I know of someone who does exactly that with their monaro, seems to work a treat! Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I always park far away from other cars in carparks. I dont mind walking a little further if it means my car wont get people hitting it with their doors. Here's the view from the front door webcam. Quote
pauly_adams Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 that not a bad idea i had some ass kick my tail lights, although they didnt break my ligts the broke the surround. i also had some one try to steal my car but they didnt screw driver it they drilled out the lock didnt work though but i did have to replace the lock, just do what i did and install remote central lock now my car cant be opened by a key/ screw driver etc but it can be a pain if your bat goes flat as you need to climb through the boot. cheers pauly Quote
RBZ 260 Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 done a quick dodgy fix on the lock. replaced it with another one. straightened the damage a bit and stuck a blue vinyl sticker over it so it doesnt look as bad. now it looks like one of those old mans cars with key lock protector around it. better thant he twisted metal and lock. when i get time the lock is comming off and hole welded. i should have done it from the start. i kicked a big fuss at work about it and got few ppl worried so they should do something to improve the security. lets hope.
