Hey guys, im just about to put my shell back on the ground as i have completed all underbody repairs. The stands are obviously homemade but it worked very well, sturdy and was well ballanced. There is also two long lengths of reo joining the stands together that i added later for more rigidity.

After $500 neg.

A couple of pics of finished underbody.

Guess i probably should have made it look pretty and give them a lick of paint but thats time id rather be doing other stuff on the zed.

To bear some details these started life as engine stands that were chopped and added height. From there some gussets added and side stance fattening. Definitely not covered by original makers waranty.

There are no stress cracks or any evidence of failure at all.Feel free to add your own signature to them if you think they need it!

This is a 2+2 by the way.

Price is negotiable as i realise its not engineered. (I didnt get a mechano set when i was little ok).

A possible misunderstanding here.

I think I pioneered that design here in Oz many many years ago based on a concept I noted on HybridZ. Quite a few have copied it since. It  worked perfectly for me and for many others.

I trust my earlier tongue-in-cheek post is read in perspective.

All good mate. I know im not the first to make a spit from old engine stands. I reasearched many designs around to get the offsets correct for balancing and the height also. So thanks to all for posting your creations so one more mutant could come to life.

Its been so awesome to have it. I couldn't bring myself to be working upside down for so much i had ahead of me with removal of sound deadener and then rust repairs. Also to position the car at exactly the angle to be able to work on without a sore back and knees. It has been a pleasure and also a milestone that many people dont pursue. But the end result is very rewarding to look at and also know that i have a 99% rust free shell now after about 4 months on the rotisserie.

Interesting design...

My lawyers will be in touch with your lawyers.

I think he copied mine although mine were better engineered and designed by the master PA.

You are too kind Grasshopper.

I notice he hasn't followed through with my ingenious 'locating pin' concept.

I used a high viz yellow handle one and at least painted the superstructure.

@PeterAllen what happened to your rear valance section when you stuck that Italian Fiberglass on the back of your car?

It was never there when I purchased the car. That was just one example of the 'work' the previous owner had carried out which overall took about 12 months to rectify before I could even start the build.

I had to make a replacement but I profiled it specifically to the GTO shape rather than OEM.

The holes were created to mate fibreglass to fibreglass and secure the valance to the rear section.

Funny, but there is so much I've forgotten about the project until something like this comes up.

(edit) Oops Gary, no images from Postimage?
