cracker Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) I have a set of carbs I was eventually going to use but have come across some other parts which are more essential to my restoration and need to fund their purchase. They are Type 4 carbs - the spare has a split and I suspect is not repairable (see pic - MIGHT be salvageable) I also have 2 rebuild kits which are being sold on ebay at around $150 each which will be included. Asking $1400 for all four, including kits as above. I'm in Adelaide and happy to post. PM or 0403 five two seven 398 Cheers Edited October 27, 2017 by cracker Quote
Luwayy Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) Are they a matching set? Thanks Edited October 18, 2017 by Luwayy Quote
cracker Posted October 18, 2017 Author Posted October 18, 2017 They are all matching carbs, yes. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 22, 2017 Administrators Posted October 22, 2017 The bottom left carb has a different casting to the other 3. Not sure if this would make any difference however? As I believe they should work the same, but 1 may have been fitted to an OEM application. There is a single 40mm carb on Trade me.co.nz that looks like it's a match for the bottom left hand corner carb with the red part no. Sticker on it. In fact if you Google the part no. I often get results for Toyota engines like 18RG etc.. which gives you an idea where they came from originally. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 22, 2017 Administrators Posted October 22, 2017 https://touch.trademe.co.nz/motors/listing/view/1447484374 Starting cheap. But casting looks like the other 3 carbs above. Quote
260z blues Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Trying to get my head around all the different model carbs. I thought these looked like s5 due to the 5 bolt top cover. Can someone please clarify as im getting lost in info lol. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 22, 2017 Administrators Posted October 22, 2017 They look like S5 style yes based on the float chamber lids. However I believe there can be subtle differences between carbs made for OE applications vs. more generic ones available through Mikuni as aftermarket parts. Like I mentioned I don't know if the casting differences in the ones here will make any difference to tuning and performance. There is a Mikuni group on Facebook with experts who have more knowledge of these carbs than I. Might be worth asking the question there. Quote

I believe S5 and Type 4 are the same - just referred to differently in different circles - I looked a few different examples to identify but I am by no means an expert so don't hold me to the terminology Gav made an interesting observation re the detail in some of the casting. I can't find any information on the subtle differences and wouldn't have noticed otherwise! Suspect he is on the money given they were used on a few different cars back in the 70s. Quote
cracker Posted October 27, 2017 Author Posted October 27, 2017 Still available. Can separate kits and carbs if someone doesn't want either (and adjust price accordingly) Quote
Triptych Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Would you consider selling just the parts carb? I have a set of triple 40mm solex carbs and the one thing slowing me down getting them running is one is missing the choke mechanism. Quote
jacksonneaves Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Im interested in the other 3 if you want the cracked one^^? How much for 3 posted to vic 3197 Quote
