Hi all,

Hoping someone can tell me whether a diff change is required when changing an auto 260z 2+2 to manual.

I've had a bit of a scout about but cannot find a definitive answer,

Cheers

Hi Mate

Not mandatory, but a good idea is to change to at at least a 3.7:1.

The standard diff for an auto should be around 3.5:1 and that works OK with tne 3 speed auto

The diff for a manual is 3.7:1 and gives better acceleration.

I went the next step and put the 3.9:1 in mine and am very happy with result - as a road car.

Accelerates well and still cruises nicely at 110+ on the open road.

What are you going to use the car for ?

I am using my auto diff with a 280 5 speed goes well enough for me, but need to change down to pass cars currently 2500 rpm @ 100kph

260Z auto diff ratio 1:3.545, whereas 5 speed manual diff ratio 1:3.7. Either is usable but the 1:3.7 is the factory selection for good reason.

260Z diffs were either R180 or R200 size, each of which uses it's own specific half shafts & mounting bar.
