Administrators gav240z Posted May 18, 2016 Administrators Posted May 18, 2016 For the uninitiated what is the benefit of the billet selector fork on 4th/5th? Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) This is a bit complicated, but....Option gearbox's were never brass syncro. They were originally steel bulk-ring.The steel coupling sleeve that selects the gear is different to the brass syncro type selector hub.Ordinarily this isn't a problem on a regular 71B 5-speed when converting from steel to brass syncros, BUT 4th/5th it at the FRONT of the Option gearbox AND is on a different rail. While 2nd/3rd can use a std brass syncro fork, you can't do that with 4th/5th due to it's positioning on the rail - hence the billet fork.(That all makes sense in my head! ) Edited May 18, 2016 by Lurch ™ CBR Jeff and gav240z 2 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 19, 2016 Administrators Posted May 19, 2016 Understood, perhaps when I'm down at the workshop I can take a look in person and I'm sure it will make more sense. Quote
TomC18 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Having waited 8 years to get a 4-5 shift fork - more importantly they don't exist unless made from billet.... and without one they don't work... Price $11,500? Quote
luvemfast Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Following on from Gav's question. What are the differences between normal and option 1 gearboxes? And what is the advantage of them? yeah. i'm a dumbass and I could search. But would be good to have here too Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 20, 2016 Administrators Posted May 20, 2016 I have a feeling Option 1 is emulating the ratio's available here. (Part No. 32010-N3220 - refer thread) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_tGt5V5rGDVS2Zxb1EtdG1fMU0/view Quote
C.A.R. Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) Nissan Option gearbox's were available for Rally or Race purposes. There are Option 1, 2 & 3 all with varying ratios. They are also 'dogleg' gearbox's. http://members.optushome.com.au/amaxeng/five10/gearbox.htm Edited May 20, 2016 by Lurch ™ Quote
dat2kman Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 The Option box in the Fury Y s a bit of a hybrid, it ses a combo of both the Opt 1 and Opt 2 gearsets, I think they used Peter Holinger to put it together. Les may recall! I have the tooth counts on file. Recently sold to Pud Thompson some Option2 bits, (incomplete) MIDAT 1 Quote
HS30-H Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Nissan Option gearbox's were available for Rally or Race purposes. There are Option 1, 2 & 3 all with varying ratios. They are also 'dogleg' gearbox's. There was an 'Option 4' version of the F5C71-B too. Sometimes nicknamed the 'Rally Option'. I've got one in the KPGC10 at the moment. One thing civilians generally don't seem to get about the F5C71-B Option 'boxes is that they are Direct Drive 5-speeds. 5th gear is 1:1, not overdrive. Good luck with the sale. This one looks lovely... Quote
