Gauges Not Working

I have a 1974 2+2 that only seems to have the clock working and nothing else. The temperature, oil pressure and fuel gauge do not work and I am not sure about the amp gauge (it jumps a little when Ignition is switched on).

 

The tacho, likely unrelated just goes to fuel gauge deflection when the ignition is switched on.

 

Is there a voltage regulator or something that will take all the gauges out?

 

Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like something is earthing out in the harness. I would unplug all the gauges and plug them in one at a time to see if you can get anything from them. Do the lights still work in the gauges and do you have tail lights?

Ive got the same drama with my gauges too soll ill be keen to see what people suggest

IIRC the small gauges & the tach share the same fuse so check that, the clock has it's own.

Ditto what d3c0y says, I'd go over the harness checking for power at each wiring connector, pins can get corroded, our cars are getting on in years. Test at each gauge for power, there is a common feed.

Also, check the earth connections, bad earths can throw up all sorts of illogical gremlins.

[bTW, you're lucky if your clock works, that's one of the most common fails & grizzles on our Zeds].

Checked all the wiring and could not fault it. There was no power to the gauges and they work when power is applied to them (this is did not check but a auto electrician did). The power wire to the gauges also feeds the auto transmission kick down and that has power.

 

Checked all plugs in the loom all good,,,,ah a mystery to me

did you check the fusible links i found one crook when my head lghts stopped working
