Administrators gav240z Posted July 21, 2015 Administrators Posted July 21, 2015 I'm not an expert on the trim received in the Japanese Market cars, but I believe a couple of times I've seen the seats on Japanese market cars trimmed as the pictures in this thread shows. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14206.msg159068.html#msg159068 But as far as I'm aware Australian market cars had all Vinyl seats throughout all years. d3c0y Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I'm so green when it comes to my car,so is this original trim in a 74 2 seater ? At least your tunnel trim is original. Quote
gilltech Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 But as far as I'm aware Australian market cars had all Vinyl seats throughout all years. Maybe mostly true, but at least one - or more - must have come thru with fabric like the one in the '74 roadtest 2+2 article I mentioned earlier, even if it/they was/were press release car(s); would have been sold eventually. Different specs, different markets, & different fabrics used too by the look of it. Would be interesting to see whether anyone can come up with a Nissan Datsun dealer's sales paperwork for both an early & a late 260 to see what 'tick the box' factory options were available for an Australian ordering a car from the factory, preferred colour etc, as opposed to taking whatever was already sitting in the showroom. That would seem a logical and sensible conclusion, however early "Evaluation and Test" vehicles are often imported under an understanding that they will not be sold to the public. A number of distributers in Aus bring cars like this in and when finished with them they may be used for Technical training or donated to emergency services for practice work. Toyota & Lexus had a rescue training day late last year and on that day a number of cars were chopped up these included Prado's, Lexus RX's, Lexus IS's and Corolla's. Quote
Lynton Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 When I purchased my 260z coupe in October 1975 cloth inserts were not an option but there was a shortage of cars during the period, you paid the price as demand was high, so it is possible some cars not taken up in orders perhaps from new guinea or NZ could well have been used as local supply for the time, there was no choice of features you were on a list if you didn't accept the car you went to the bottom of the list and waited again. gilltech Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 OK so I've dug out a Nissan sales brochure printed in English in 1974 for the 260Z, RHD, 2,565cc, it only shows the 2-seater. Has the front indicators under the bumper, & no repeaters in the guards, everything the same as my NZ-new early '74. I bought this brochure in NZ some years back. On the back page are all the specifications.....blah blah List of Standard Equipment.....blah blah then (quote) "Optional Equipment: 6.45H14 tires with tubes. 175HR14 radial ply tires with tubes. 195/70VR14 low profile radial ply tires. 5 1/2Jx14 aluminium road wheels. Radio. Car stereo. Door/fender mirror. Carpet. Foot rest for passenger. Heater. Clock. Hard suspension. Passing light. Front & rear spoilers. Auto-antenna. Hazard warning flasher. FABRIC TRIMMED SEATS (my caps). Tinted glass. Electric rear window defroster". (unquote) So - in theory - fabric trimmed seats were available for the general RHD market cars, of which Nzeder says the NZ cars were a part of. Whereas you're all saying your Aus cars only got vinyl. OK. Except perhaps a few cars used for press releases like for the MM road test I dug out? BTW, that car has NSW rego plates "PT-041" & has fabric seats, the optional electric steel sunroof & optional radio/tapedeck; I wonder if it still exists. (Did the 'PT' mean anything rego wise back then? could be a clue there). Quote
