Clockwork Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I saw Scoota G mentioned a pertronix ignition system to replace mechanical breakers. I cant find any other mention on the forum so just wondering if anyone has installed this in their Z (or other car) and what you think.? Cheers. Quote
oldmates260z Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I bought this one for my 2000 Sports, easy to order, delivered in a timely manner, easy to install and made a noticeable but small improvement to the way the car ran. I would recommend it. http://classicgarage.com/71.html The 240Z one: http://classicgarage.com/72.html Quote
d3c0y Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 It's still pretty easy to buy a 280ZX distributor which is a bolt in solution Quote
aussie240z Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I added this to mine a couple of years back after having the zed on the dyno. The new ignition along with a bit more port and exhaust work jumped the output and smooth dyno curve of the engine considerably. As noted, easy to install and manage. Cheers Ian Quote
blu260z Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 They work great no issues here. 100x better than points and alot easier than hunting for a 280zx distributor with all the bits. Quote
peter t Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I installed a Crane unit in my car but now the tacho don't work. Quote
Scoota G Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I like the Pertronix kits because the base plates of the 280ZX Items used for advance vacuum are fragile. No Issue with the stock dizzy, my other Zed runs it. Also fitted Pertronix to a Series I 1970 Jaguar, works perfect! Quote

Hey Scoota Does the Pertronix kit replace the vac advance breaker plate of the standard 280zx dizzy? Cheers Mick Quote

Clockwork Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 They do quote for a 280c (l28, l28e), i forgot to ask when I talked to them today. the kits are the same for the L24, L26, with a Hitachi system, to replace points with part number GH203 - cost is $132 plus GST ($145.20) plus postage. I reckon I'll get one, because im always checking, regapping and replacing points, and I kinda wanna keep as many original parts. I dunno how that compares to the price of getting a 280zx dizzy, and how they compare in terms of output, but meh. attached is the pdf of makes and models. all prices are pretty similar I think (I got quotes for my navara (z24) and corolla (4k) also - only $8 in it. that was just the points replacement and not the coil with it - the ebay store looks like you would add ~$100 http://stores.ebay.com.au/Pertronix-Australia/Pertronix-Ignitors-/_i.html?_fsub=3437130011&_sid=777022241&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 46864_73f9a1dd96dbf1c691064844e1e4c656888fb082.pdf Quote
Scoota G Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 The power gain is pretty flash too and i love the set and forget aspect! Quote
monkeyman Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I put the pertronix on my L28 about... 13 or 14 years ago. Beefed up the coil a bit. I have never looked back. Quote
