RLY240 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Anyone in SA got an F54 block that they would part with? Don't need the internals, just the block and main caps but would take a long / short motor also. Roger Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 21, 2015 Administrators Posted April 21, 2015 I've got 1 in NSW that I'd part with. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15730.0.html But not sure if freight would make it worth your while? Quote
RLY240 Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 Thanks Gav, I'm looking to do an 89mm bore so yours might not be suitable going by your ad. Roger Quote
44014 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 having looked into this and from speaking with Jake N42 block can be just as viable to be bored to 89mm you just need to have them sonic tested. i suggest contacting pmc a member on here as he will be able to source a block for you and i think he can identify the ones that can be overbored. Riceburner Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 I thought N42 was the preferred block for large over bores? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 21, 2015 Administrators Posted April 21, 2015 I thought N42 was the preferred block for large over bores? Generally yes, but due to casting differences they can be all over the place. Doesn't matter if F54 or N42 really. The big problem is you can go through several blocks trying to find a suitable candidate for overbore to 89mm. Pain in the butt.. Quote
ZED83 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Like Gav said Either one, mostly luck of the draw. I have a F54 bored out to 90mm!!! Took a gamble with it ???? can even go 91mm as it has a really good casting. Quote
44014 Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Jake mentioned to me tha pmc had a way to identify what n42 blocks could be bored out to 89 from some casting mark. Quote
d3c0y Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 It was F54s actually, there was a "good" batch of them that will go 90+ depending on how daring you are. But N42s will go 89mm, that's what i have but had to go through 3 blocks to find it. Quote
G Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I'd love to know how to identify it. I'm looking for an 89mm and I have a complete L28 F54 in my garage. Problem is, I don't want to pull it apart only to find it won't go to 89.. If there's an external trick, then I can either keep it or transfer the running engine to another z owner. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 22, 2015 Administrators Posted April 22, 2015 I don't think there is any external trick, I've only heard rumors. I asked Stewart Wilkins but he said they can be all over the place. So I take his word for it, as someone who has tested quite a few blocks in the past. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 clean them up, and get the UT (ultra sonically tested) to check depth of bore-wall, before you even start the machining process on the block. best and only way really, otherwise its guesswork. and to think i let go an F54 with a P90 for only $400 to Daihmin some years ago, here in Adelaide too!!! nat0 Quote
