zzzzed Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 What's the best shocks for mild track work and where can I get them for my 75 two seater? Quote
zzzzed Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 What sort of price range are you looking at? up to $1000 Quote
zzzzed Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 That's what I thought. You sold yours didn't you? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I have KYB AGX 4 way adjustables on my car. They're a slightly shorter shock from a Z31 300zx, so great for lower springs. Not sure of the valving on them but they have been faultless on 340lb springs. Got them from Baz at Datsport. They were cheaper than Koni yellows and he recommended them as being a good shock. There's a detailed shock thread on HybridZ, there's a few racers going for Bilstiens from a VW. They're very well priced too. Quote
d3c0y Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 You can get the BC coilover kit for close to that money, they even come with springs. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 You can get the BC coilover kit for close to that money, they even come with springs. I just looked them up. $1349 a set that might be the way I go Are they any good? Quote
44014 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Plus you will have to pay someone to cut and weld to your current struts... You are heading closer to $2000 already. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 I do all cutting and welding my self. I am in the trade. For $1349 you get the complete strut assembly with camber tops and adjustable shocks http://www.bc-racing.com.au/bc-racing-coilover-suspension-kit-nissan-240z-s30-51mm-strut.html Quote
C.A.R. Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 BC are crap - Valving in them is very poor as is the build quality. Go Koni or MCA. Quote

d3c0y Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 New struts will need springs and bump stops to match, maybe strut tops too. Even koni struts need to be re-valved if you want to run decent spring rates ~350lbs. So $1k suspension not $1k? The triangle strikes again! Quote
zzzzed Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 I think this thred has escalated I bit to much. I am only after a bit of track day fun two or 3 times a year Nothing serious. Maybe I will dial it back a bit and look in to munroe shocks Quote
reverendzed Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Mick - I'll put you in touch with someone who does this for a living. Will PM you. Quote
Roberto Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Don't even think about Monroe Mick. I think Lurch was being sarcastic. I had them in my zed years ago and they lasted only 6 months. After that they were totally shot. I then changed them over to Koni Red which were excellent ($700 for all 4) but not externally adjustable. I now have the Tokico illuminas in mine which are externally adjustable and are pretty good. You can get them off ebay in the US for way less than $1k. You can come and see how they ride in my zed with Kings lows if you want. Quote
d3c0y Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 My point was how far do you need to go with it? If you are doing struts you are going to want to do springs and maybe strut tops if they are old too. It's the little things that add up. Quote

At this stage it will be a road car that gets occasional track use I plan to get a shit box r32 in the future I can turn in to a dedicated track car. Something I can thrash and not care to much about it Quote
