Arnold Mendoza Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Badly need it! Is anyone can give me the right avenue/sources to find LD28 Crankshaft? Thanks and appreciate your help! Quote
G Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 There should be one for sale in the parts for sale section... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 21, 2014 Administrators Posted October 21, 2014 I see you already replied here? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14650.0.html If Gareth's is sold I may be able to help you source another, but shipping is gonna be expensive due to weight of the item and obviously being that it will be second hand it will be hard to guarantee it's condition is perfect without a machine shop inspecting it. I would guess it would cost around ~$1000 AUD - but could be slightly higher. FYI: Rebello racing is putting together some custom cranks (see video). However again shipping would be expensive on top of an already expensive item. Another option would be to speak to Peter Mac or Les Collins who may be able to provide something manufactured locally instead? Quote
Arnold Mendoza Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 Thanks a lot Gentlemen, appreciate your help! Quote
NZeder Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Wow pleased I am not in oz looking for a ld28 crank (one plus for returning home to Auckland after living in Melbourne over 10 years ago now...time does fly) I know none of you ozzies want to hear this but over the last 10 years since I have been back in NZ I have obtained 6 LD28 crank shafts. 3 have been sold on or used in stroker builds (one sold and shipped to oz) usually sold for around $250AUD but the shipping is expensive which is why the price is high in oz. My latest LD28 crank I picked up this weekend remove from the block and today I took the old block to the scrap dealer and got $20 for the block. Not bad deal given I paid $20.50 for the engine with the crank in good shape running standard mains and big end journals and a non damaged snout/key ways (common to find some damage to the first key way as that is used to drive the diesel pump) So $0.50 NZD for a good LD28 crank I am very very happy about that. Administrators gav240z Posted November 3, 2014 Administrators Posted November 3, 2014 Lucky for you, in Japan these sell for $300 - $600 (AU) depending on condition. The shipping is indeed the expensive bit, but also I imagine tearing down a block takes time. Quote
d3c0y Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hit up PeterMC he does 3.4L stroker kits for not much more than the numbers being thrown around here for the crappy LD28 crank Quote

dat2kman Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hang on, You saying Pete Mac is doing 3.4 kits, for not mch more than thee price of a crappy ld28 crank?? Price check in Aisle 4 pleade. Last I heard they were around the $7k mark from Pete. Fitting and doing it properly, adds just a touch more,,,,,, Quote

Fitting and doing it properly, adds just a touch more,,,,,, Well yeah if you want a $5k billet crank it's going to be dear. Are we talking about bolting in a stock V07 with stock rods and stock pistons and a stock head here? If we are then there is hardly any point doing it. Think of how much an RB30 crank costs vs a V07 crank. Then you have to machine both cranks unless you want a big diesel lead weight bottom end spinning around down there anyway. So you already have a $500 head start on the machining costs with the RB30 crank. Pretty sure my machined V07 costs around $2k by the time all was said and done. Just looked up my invoice was $2900, not a lot of difference in price, big difference in performance. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I think it's around $7k for crank, rods and pistons Quote

The shipping is indeed the expensive bit, but also I imagine tearing down a block takes time. Are these tested? Maybe mine is over priced, it's fully checked and I'd hate to sell one to later find out it's cracked. If it doesn't sell I'll just keep it as a spare. The LD28 and L28 cranks are virtually the same weight in stock form, IIRC my LD crank was 800 grams heavier when I weighed it. The stories about the LD crank and rods being much heavier aren't correct. I'll be building an L31 with the deisel crank, it won't be in the same ball park as the PMC 3.4 but it'll be just fine for me. Quote
NZeder Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Well I would love one of the cranks PMC does and that might be for later on. Given LD28 are a bit easier to finder here in NZ aka my example of picking one up for $0.40 AUD. Then for now most here in NZ will build strokers using LD28 mainly due to supply ie I have 3 good ones in storage in the shed currently. That matches the 3 L28 engines I have and yes more than I need but I do have 2 zeds so that leaves just one as a spare. Once prepared my 0.40 crank will cost a lot more so the price is dependent on if it has been checked/crack tested etc. My crank is currently unknown condition other than it came from a marine install and was running standard main and big end bearings so then donor engine should not have been too stressed or rev'd hard most of its life. d3c0y Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I think it's around $7k for crank, rods and pistons I have an invoice here from one i paid for... $870 for eagle rods $1500 for custom forged pistons, which if you are doing an apples with apples comparison will be the same for a 3.1L anyway. That's $5270 by my maths with the crank. I just confirmed that my V07 cost about $2000 prepped and ready to go including buying it. Quote

Given LD28 are a bit easier to finder here in NZ aka my example of picking one up for $0.40 AUD. Yeah that makes another $500 dent into the price, but my point was more directed to the Aussies. I come over quite often i should go to the wreckers and bring some back. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted November 4, 2014 Administrators Posted November 4, 2014 Are these tested? Maybe mine is over priced, it's fully checked and I'd hate to sell one to later find out it's cracked. If it doesn't sell I'll just keep it as a spare. Not not tested could be any condition from the description. Keep in mind that shipping will be about $300-$400 AU due to weight of the item anyway so 1 way or another you're going to pay $800 AU for an LD28 crank in AU. Unless you can get the NZ special price? But I agree the price for a PMC set up sounds like a good idea when you factor in the cost of doing the LD28 crank properly. This is why I'm sticking with a standard L28 rebuild at the moment, the money just adds up quickly. Quote
d3c0y Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I think you are being smart about it Gav, you can hit $10k very quickly even with a stock stroke L28. When you actually go through and do the sums on all the stuff you HAVE to spend money on building a performance engine it gets scary quick. Also on the cost of shipping from Japan anything bulky or heavy always blows out to the point its only worth sticking it in a container in my experience, plus add on brokerage fees and internal shipping etc...
