wayne080866 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Hi I'm Wayne from sydney and need a little help ,I have what I thought was a 240z. When I check the number on the firewall grs30 000970 I can only find 260 2+2 ?? , so I'm a little confused as this only has 2 seats, any help would be appreciated . Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted September 30, 2014 Moderators Posted September 30, 2014 Gidday and Welcome If I recall correctly the "G" at the start indicates 2+2. The bodies are noticeably different between 2 seater and 2+2. They are longer and really noticeable just behind the doors the 2+2 has some distance between the door and rear wheel arch. Can you post up a photo of the side view? Cheers PB Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 1, 2014 Administrators Posted October 1, 2014 G = 2+2 R = 260z S30 = Model family 000970 = Pretty early 2+2 - so maybe 1974? If it doesn't have rear seats, it's likely someone removed them for the extra luggage space? The 1/4 windows are the giveaway. Quote
d3c0y Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 A picture of it would make it a giveaway too. Quote
Retro Z Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Possibly rebodied or a rebirthed car. As everyone else has mentioned put up a pic. Quote

Sirpent Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Diagnosis "Cut and Shut" Peel away the sill carpet covers, check to see if there are visible cut and weld lines, then gently remove the windscreen pillar vinyl, see if the same tell tale cut and welds are there. Remember also that a good cut and shut is as strong as the original structure if each segmented cut is a minimal 70mm adjunct from the opposing cut area. Example, most windscreen pillars and sill utilise triple plate construction, inner, centre and outer, if all three are sectioned 70mm adjunct to each other rather than parallel, this was a totally acceptable repair method all the way up to the 1980's, it was when parallel cut and joins were used that the future seeds of disaster were planted. In addition, if the floor pan was unpicked at the firewall and reattached as per factory, you should have no concerns. Cheers John Quote

Moderators PB260Z Posted October 1, 2014 Moderators Posted October 1, 2014 In addition is there any evidence on the inside that it was a different colour to under the bonnet ? Where abouts in Sydney are you ? Quote
Retro Z Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Could just have the stamped VIN section cut out from donor and welded into this shell and all the other ID plates riveted in. To upload your pictures use. www.tinypic.com And copy and paste the forum code into your reply. Quote

Moderators PB260Z Posted October 1, 2014 Moderators Posted October 1, 2014 im in raby out near Campbelltown, not sure about the colors yet Was thinking that if you were local (North) I might drop past and have a look. Raby is a good hike from my place. Out of interest is the car registered? or do you know the last rego number. Would be interesting to see what it is registered as ? The RMS has free rego check app. Quote
