Kavs Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Hey guys, I want to get a balanced ride front tire in line with the guard and back a touch lower. If you have springs, shocks, coilovers or any parts that would help let me know. Cheers Quote
zeds4ever Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Have a set of King Springs front n back to drop 35mm all round. (Brand new) Regards: Alan. Quote
C.A.R. Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 To do what you want with lowered King springs, you'll have to cut & lower the spring purches. Quote
benny Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Just cut the springs bruv. Suspension travel is for losers EDIT: Thought I should add something constructive... photo attached is king springs less 1/2 to 1 (cant recall exactly) coils removed. The weld on coilover kits are pretty useless as they are not base height adjustable you really need to spend upwards up $1600 for coilovers (AZC or equivalent) Quote
Kavs Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 Well said. Looks like that's where I'm headin. already got king springs and I aint $$$ up for AZC's. Blew coin on interior instead, maybe not a smart move but leather smells good . Quote
d3c0y Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Base height adjustment has nothing to do with lowering the car if you are doing it properly. Just section your strut and change inserts if you want to do it on the cheap. Quote
Kavs Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 d3c0y, Any idea as far as the insert goes? how hight, what type, brand etc ? Also Benny, were your king springs standard or lowered before cutting. Cheers Quote

Also Benny, were your king springs standard or lowered before cutting. Cheers They were "lowered". Just cut qtr of a coil at a time till you reach desired height. Base height adjustment has nothing to do with lowering the car if you are doing it properly. Just section your strut and change inserts if you want to do it on the cheap. If you want easy height adjustment then it does if your happy with deciding on a relatively set height then sectioning works just fine. But for majority of setups just changing out springs should be enough. Kav there is plenty of info around on the forum about which inserts to purchase (part numbers and brands etc) Quote
d3c0y Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 As I said if you want to do it "properly". With coilovers, you use your strut length to set your compressed length and then lower the spring perch to the desired ride height. There is no point having suspension that can travel past where the wheel hits the car... d3c0y, Any idea as far as the insert goes? how hight, what type, brand etc ? There are tons of options for shorter inserts, AW11 MR2, Z31, some type of corolla. Brand is up to you, but most people buy Koni adjustables or Tokikos. Obviously you have to figure out how long you want your strut before you cut it too. And if you are going to this much effort you would be crazy not to weld on some threaded sleeves and adjustable purchases while you are at it because they are like $500 a set. Quote
dat2kman Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Another way to lower, without compromising the operation of the strut shock or spring, is to reduce the height of the strut top. Drop car 1/2" and retain rubber cushioning, ir a bit over 1" and go solid, still retains original strut top! Quote
Kavs Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 By lowering the strut, which i'm looking in to, I will need new shocks for the front,. does anyone know if you use the front or rear MR2 shocks ? Quote
dat2kman Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 By how much front and back do you want to lower the car? What is, say heights to top centre of guard lips/arches? Or to bottom edge of folded lip/seam at very front and back of your sills. Sometimes you can get away with fitting some aftermarket heavy duty springs that are lowered all around, or just lowered at one end. Look up "King Springs" they have various options for the 240 and 260z Quote
Kavs Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 I need 2 inch lower at the front as I am taking 2 inch off the strut. The MR2s AW11 are 1 inch rears don't know about the fronts. Quote
d3c0y Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 To be honest if you do lowered king springs and then put thin strut tops in it you will get pretty close to the height you first said you wanted. Here is a pic of mine with low king springs. If you use a GC camber kit that will drop you another 30mm or so? Quote
