For some reason i am starting to consider that giving my Z an old school look rather than a modern dark grey look might be the way to go.

I really like the styling and colour choice that the 432 has (awesome orange with those red badges!). What are peoples opinions on 432 replica's, especially considering that I will be doing it to a 260 (the early one mind you). Is the standard 432 colour 918? From most of the pictures I have seen that is quite orange, but I don't think it's 920 because that seems far too baby shiver colour... I think the colour I'm after is somewhere in between... something close to this pic, but with more yellow perhaps?

One positive for going this colour is that the paintjob should be cheaper, and I might even consider doing it myself due to having no metallic element. Would save big bucks...

What are your thoughts?

Are you getting mixed up between the 'normal' PS30 'Fairlady Z432' and the much rarer PS30-SB 'Fairlady Z432-R'?

PS30 came in all the colours that the contemporary Japanese market Fairlady Zs came in ( 901, 905, 919, 920, 904, 907 & 918 ) whilst the PS30-SB was only available for sale to the general public in like-it-or-lump-it 918 'Grand Prix Orange'.

So when you're talking about 432 replicas I think what you really mean is 432-R replicas / lookeylikeys.

The Bingo Sports car in your photos was not a genuine 432-R, by the way. It was 'just' a normal full fat 432 jazzed up to look like an R.

As long as you don't put a 432 badge on it, make it look like one.

Putting special or limited edition badging on a car that is the genuine article, just seems like you're trying to doop people into thinking you have something you don't.

Like making a '65/6 Mustang a GT350 clone, or Turbo Regal into a GNX. When a real one comes along, it makes the real one seem less significant than it is.

I am a fan of keeping the car it's original colour. Modern colours don't suit old cars.

Ive agonised over colour choice for so long and in the end I keep coming back to this ^^^^

I went to Motorex on the weekend and saw some great cars but there were so many that (for me) just didn't work because old cars look shiver with many contemporary colours.

FWIW go with 918

Well simply painting your car in 918 orange doesn't make it a replica of anything. I'd call that more of a tribute car than a 'replica' - a replica implies you'll be finishing the car to represent an original Z432 - for which case you would want to look at obtaining an S20 motor and all the other subtle detail differences to that model.

I'm a huge fan of that pictured Z432 that was offered at the Bingo Sports auction, and dare I say it, that car made me do something silly which was buying car #150 - I just love the early car details after all and that paint colour was an early S30Z colour.

918 Orange is also a really nice colour and perhaps my 'favorite' early 240z colour, but I also love 905 red and 920 has really grown on me in recent years. I have to say I prefer the earlier S30z colour options over the later ones that were used, although there is quite a few nice colours used in the later cars also.

For me I started to really like 'period' looking cars after seeing this at the Melbourne Hot Rod show in 2007.

I had always hated this style of Falcon in this particular colour, but that was because when I saw them they were always run down and looking tired. I couldn't believe how much I liked this particular car when I saw it.

Now if the same car had been painted in an overly used 'house of kolors' hue, I think it would look dated when looking at it today (2014), but instead it looks as good to me now as it did back then. That is the reason I think period colours are a good option. You'll always have a car that looks 'correct'.

Hmmm yeah, i guess I didn't mean replica, but just a nod to its styling... although in saying that, the red of that badge on the orange really finishes it off!

The colour I was after in the first place (medium dark metallic grey) wouldn't look too modern, but my whole design ethos based around that colour was that I was going to add modern touches...

I still have a bit to think over i think!

Love the colour on the Bingo 432, go for it I say. But really, any original Datsun colour is just as good. As for a 432 replica, unless you have a s20 motor IMO i don't think it would be a good idea to put the 432 badges on it, especially if you are retaining the 260z tailights. Admittedly, for me I have double standards for this sort of thing. Eg, I don't mind seeing a L-powered Hako or Kenmeri with GTR badges (I'd be happy just to see one in the flesh!) but I cringe when I see GTR badges on a R32/33/34 fake GTR's. Also don't mind "replica" GT falcons, GTS Monaro's and GTR/SS/SLR Torana's.

@Gav, I do have a soft spot for the XA falcons but that gold one you posted doesn't look period to me at all. The interior colour and looks to be 17" wheels detract IMO.

Even on my zed I kinda regret going for 16 inch wheels instead of 15". My 2c.

I know exactly what you're talking about mike. I really wouldn't want people to think that I am trying to dupe them that the car is a 432, the thing is,

99.9% of people wouldn't know what a 432 is, and I just really like the look of the badges on that paintwork!

To 99.9% of people, it would just be a cool looking car with a cool looking badge that has some numbers...

I know what you mean by the 432 badge, I almost bought at least one recently (NOS) just because it does look cool, but seemed like a poor choice in where to spend my money, especially since I should be saving my money for next semester...

Well that's the thing. On modern cars or models that actually exist I think it's a bit dodgy. But I mean seriously, how many real 432's are you EVER going to see in your life? And we are the sort of people going to seek them out. Should we be depriving the world of Scotland history and just plain z coolness?

It's a tough one...
