orange-Z Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I am looking for a right rear drum brake cylinder for my 1974 260Z. I have not been able to get my current one to seal with new rubber kit. The barrel is clean but not smooth. Can I use very fine sand paper to improve the seal? Who would sell the cylinder in Aus? I have new brake cylinders on my parts 1977 260Z but they are totally different. Thanks Quote
Cozza Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I recently had my 240z wheel cylinders re-sleeved (to original bore diameter) as I couldn't find replacement ones. They cost me about $150 and seem to be done very well. They were done by Weldon Brake and Clutch in Miranda. http://www.weldonbrakes.com.au Mick Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 25, 2015 Moderators Posted February 25, 2015 Gidday Sand paper is to rough, try a brake honing tool. http://www.sidchrome.com.au/products/brake-cylinder-hone-3-arm-design- If that doesn't work, or you not confident and competent to do the job yourself then agree with going the re-sleeving route. But I would do them in pairs. I just had a full set of 4 done for an old Chev for around $80 each. Most old school brake shops can do the job. Cheers PB Quote
Jason89 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I just sent a pair to powerbrakes in adelaide. They quoted me $75 each to sleeve. Will hopefully get them back today. You might be able to new ones on ebay but its easier to get them overhauled. Quote
orange-Z Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Thank you for the input and ideas. I have found a place in Brendale Qld that do stainless steel sleeving and will re-sleeve for $66 a cylinder and 1 day turn around. Will give this a try tomorrow. Cheers Al Quote
