Thanks Gavin. I had seen some other post of the original owners, but hadn't seen that photo before. Quite moving to see a 40 year old photo of your car. I only recently moved it into the garage. Its new permanent home. Now I can really get stuck into the body. Only really the floor and sills to sort out before I can paint it. Got one floor sitting in place ready for welding. Been working on the rear struts the last couple of days so I can put the threaded tubes and R31 brakes on. New wheel bearings on way. I've bought quite a bit for it so far. I'm doing all the work myself so just paying for parts which saves a lot. I've decided to put reasonably good stuff into it so it'll be a good car when done. For this one it just costs what it costs

Wheels 15" Or 16", Primarily Track Use, Thoughts?
GregTas replied to GregTas's topic in Wheels and Tyres
Thanks dat2 that's been very helpful. If there's a better choice of tyres then that's a good enough reason for me to go with the 15s. Greg -
Wheels 15" Or 16", Primarily Track Use, Thoughts?

Thanks for comments all. Well still not sure. Sounds like both could work ok. I might spend some more time looking at tyres. I haven't yet bought the stuff for the front brakes and so perhaps before ordering wheels I get them sorted and if I do decide to go bigger than the R33 rotors I can. -
Wheels 15" Or 16", Primarily Track Use, Thoughts?

24 Dat those brakes do look nice and not that expensive either. I have just gone with R31 brakes on the rear and so prob not much point going bigger than R33 on the front. With Kato Kid and Rcihard's comments I'm now thinking perhaps 15". Richard why is it best to keep the diameter as small as possible? -
Wheels 15" Or 16", Primarily Track Use, Thoughts?
GregTas replied to GregTas's topic in Wheels and Tyres
Thanks for info. Is the tyre range comparable in both? I was going to run R33 GTS front rotors which I believe are 296mm. I think these will just fit under 15" wheels. What size rotors are you running? -
That looks like a very nice car Kuba. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.

Hi, I'm about to order the wheels for my 240 and have decided on some Rota RBs in either a 15x8 +4 or RB-Rs in a 16x8 +4, but I don't know whether 15" or 16" would be the way to go. I believe this width and offset will fit under standard guards ok. The car will be primarily used for track, but will get some limited road use. I intend to run 225 tyres, so thinking they they'll be either 225x60x15 or 225x50(45)x16. I think I can get decent tyres in both 15" or 16". So are there pros and cons between 15" and 16" or is it just looks? The tyre sidewall will be a bit less on the 16" tyre which might be better on track, but don't know if the difference over a 60 series tyre would be noticeable. Has anyone got track experience with 15" and 16" wheels, or just general experience? Thanks, Greg

Nice effort sorting it. Goodluck.

Hi Peter, I'll take these if still available. I will need postage to Hobart. Thanks, Greg

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Richard that video is quiet interesting. The S30s seemed about the same as you until the tighter pit corner, where things are obviously a bit different. It would be interesting to who how your setup compared with theirs. Interesting that you suggest no rear bar. I didn't have one on my old car and it handled ok, but never tried with one so don't know if it would have been better or worse. I'll have to see if I can understand that set up a bit more. Dat2kman sounds like I'll go with those springs. If I go with the thicker bar then I'm assuming I'd have to also have something on the rear to balance it out. I'll do some searching and see what options are out there. My local track is Baskerville which is quite tight and has a couple corners which drop away on the inside so I wonder if I need to be a little careful about the stiffness. On the old car I had 15" 60s tyres and with 3.9 diff which was ok. 3, 4 and 5th gear used. Was turbo L series and so only 6500 or so in the revs. I'll download the program and have a fiddle. For the wheels I was planning on going with 15x8 Rota Rs in a +4 offset, but haven't bought them yet. I'd be interested to know what the wheels are that you'd sell. Perhaps send me a PM with pics.My sister lives in Melbourne and has wanted me to drop over for a while, but I don't think she'd be too happy if some wheels turned up at her placed and I just dropped over to collect them. I think Id be in trouble

Hi, I'm starting to get my suspension sorted for my car (240). It will be a track car, but will possibly get some limited road use. I've done quite a bit of searching on the web and on the forum on what people are doing for the suspension, but some things like spring rates seem to vary quite a bit e.g. in the front from 200lb up to 500-600lb (seems very stiff). I know there's a lot of variables and so things setups can vary, but was after some thoughts or info from those that are running track cars and have tried a few things. Some years back I ran a 240 with konis, coil overs, 330lb in front, 280lb in the rear, stock front bar and no rear bar. It handled ok, but that was the only setup that I tried. My new car has: -welded in cage - seam welded - 15x8 wheels (not yet bought and so could got 16x8". Not sure which is best option here) - will have treaded track tyres I'm thinking 225x50x15, but could be 16x8 with 225x45x16. Suspension set up: - Koni gold (decided). Sectioned struts. - 65mm coil overs (decided) What I was thinking for the springs and sway bars was; 325lb front, 300mm long 275lb rear, 300mm long 22mmm front bar Rear bar - no idea? Does someone with some track experience have some thought on where I'm thinking of starting for my spring rates and sway bars? I know it'll just be a starting point, but was hoping to start somewhere fairly close. Thanks for the thoughts, Greg

Thanks Gareth. I plan on using a 22mm bar and I'm assuming that the standard saddles will work for that with a different bush inside.
-
Not bothered about the cost because new ones shouldn't be that expensive. If anyone in Aus has some secondhand saddles they don't want I'd be happy to buy them.
-
Hi, My car has no front sway bar or mounting saddles. The saddles being the ones that bolt under the rail. Is there someone in Aus that makes new ones or do I have to track down secondhand? Greg
-
No, no,no I'm not doing that! Who on earth would do such a nasty thing to their zed? I'm going with the boltins that require no chopping https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/240z/240z-260z-and-280z-solid-pillow-mounts

The K-Macs were too much for me. I ended up going with the TechnoToys plates and top hats. I also got a bushing kit. I ordered some threaded strut tubes SW Motorsport.
-
Why so many Tan cars? perhaps like orange it was a popular 70s colour?
-
I've had a look there. I think I might go with the techno tops, hats and the coil over kits.Postage for all that is only $120 USD which seems quite good. The coil over kits come with the front and rear springs and so I just need to work out my spring free lengths and I can place an order
-
Thanks. They look like they'll do the job. Some good bits there and prices look quite good too. Greg
-
If they are as tall as the originals then not really what I'm looking for. Don't know if really matters, but I thought it would be nice to get something a little shorter.
-
Thanks. The adjustable SW ones are $770 a pair which seems a a fair bit. No photos so I don't know if they would fit with out chopping. They fixed 1 degree tops may be a better way to go for me with the standard strut tower.. I could do most of the adjustment at the bottom. I'm hoping to get something as thin as possible so I don't waste the travel in the shock. I did contact SW last week about buying some threaded strut sleeves and shocks but haven't heard back yet. I might have to give him a call.
-
Hi, I was after some camber plates to go on my front struts. I don't what to chop out the top of the strut towers. I have seen some posts suggesting EMI camber plates, but I can't find them. Are they still available? Are there other alternatives? I have adjustable lower arms and so I'm hoping that the limited movement in the top from not chopping out the strut tops will not be a problem. Greg

I know the antique white the jags were. A nice classic colour.I'll keep my eye out for a white Toyota. It's a pity you can't line up twenty different cars at the same time to compare.Computer screens are obviously no good for this sort of thing.

The red clashes with the black console and my car is RHD so that won't work. Thanks evryone for all the comments and links. With the exception of one person saying my car will look like a washing machine no one has sad anything bad about 904 or suggested any other whites so I might just go with 904.
