EFI to Carb, missing, spluttering and just not running right.
BatmansDatsun replied to BatmansDatsun's topic in Engine
Yeh the car will not be driven on this carby setup. it was put on to see if it would fix the problem im having with fuel/the miss. I would rather put the fuel pump on, but the FPR would be a way to see if the overpressure is what is causing the car to run like that. If the FPR makes it a little better (i would of bought another one anyway) then the next step is the pump. and then new manifolds and probably a twin SU setup as I could not afford triples atm. Is there a specific pump i should be looking for? or will any pump designed to work on a 1-10 psi (with fpr) range be sufficient.. I really value the input here guys and that carby is probably shot, i will try the local wreckers tomorrow but if anyone has one in sunnycoast to goldy that i could just swap over ( you would get it back) to see if that makes a difference, that would be amazing -

zedman I'd love to put the right pump in there but money is the restricting factor here. The Reg would be a will that fix it sort of thing and if it does new manifold and carby then fuel pump. So i take it you all think its overfueling then.... which is a good thing, as thats what i thought it was I really appreciate the feedback will let you know how that goes. Cheers Nic -

Yeh it still has the EFi pump in it, i tried to use my adjustable fuel reg to bring it down but i think it might be buggered. Would using a adjustable fuel reg be able to bring that down enough? just thinking i might buy another one this week to try it. The video is up so see what you think Cheers nic -

Gday guys been a while since I've been on here due to work and the likes. I rebuilt my l28 at Xmas time and some of you may remember I had issues with fuel and spark and the thing wouldn't fire on all 6. I managed as temp solution/test to grab a carby setup off my bro in law's c210 Skyline. I know its meant for a 2.4l and he had only ever run gas through that setup, but it starts and runs.......but not on all cyl's. I have replaced every part bar the fuel pump on this thing either from a working and running l28 or brand new part. Link to the video (my apologies for any language in it) I have replaced the following: - Full dizzy setup - Fuel Filter - lines - plugs (tried hotter and colder and different gaps on each of those) - Leads - FPR ( didn't make a difference so i took it off as there is a return line) I have tried the following: - Set timing advanced and retard on the actual spindle end - checked valves and pistons are where they are at TDP multiple times - Comp test all Cyls were within 10-15 psi of each other I'm leaning towards the carbie setup as it is old and i couldn't justify putting a carby kit into it and re jetting it for the pure reason that i cant actually shut my bonnet with it on haha. Any advice or help with this would be tops. And if you are in Brisbane and have a spare carby setup (with manifold) and are willing to let me try it to see if it actually makes a difference you would be greatly appreciated and provided a carton of an alcoholic (or not) beverage Cheers guys and thanks in advance Nic -
So upon further investigation today it seems like I'm not getting a signal to injector number 5. I have started tracing my wires to look for any splits bit as usual as I got close to the end it bucketed down on me. I will update when I have run new wires to the injector and fired it up. Thanks for all the help on this guys.

Gday guys and gals Recently I rebuilt a l28e from the ground up everything was new (bar the manifolds and efi gear) and have had to leave it for a few months due to work. Finally getting back to it I got it in and all ready to go..... Nothing!... it wouldnt start originally and I figured out it was a timing issue, moved the spindle a few teeth advanced and he presto it started. Ran for about 30 seconds and then died. So I have gone and Troubleshooted to the best of my ability, and now it runs but it sounds to my like its 8cyling Sorta like a carby thats being drowned. So i replaced The following items to resolve any issues. New AFM New Dizzy (inc cap, and rotor) New Injectors, New FPR New Fuel Filter New TPS New Coolant temp sensor New Oil Pressure sender New Efi piping, New Fuel Pump New Plugs New Leads And still not running, I had a mate who is a mechanic come out and look at it, he had it running almost perfect within 20 mins, Next day started it up let it get to temp and still running like balls. Im at the point where I have a single mikuni setup from my brother in laws c210 Skyline (as he pinched my spare intake manifold and exhaust manifold) and im going to bolt it on and try that... BUT that is a hell of a lot of work. I do have a new set of bosch plugs for the injectors (with clips) and have not wanted to put them on just as yet as I am sick of throwing money at this thing. Any help or knowledge would be appreciated. Cheers Nic

So basically just drive it normally? is there a K limit some guys are saying 500k some are saying 700-900.. How long before I can literally have a good crack at my local track? I am keen as beans to see what a rebuilt L6 goes compared to the L5.5/L5 I have been driving for the last 7 months. Plus it will be good to have a second car haha.

G'day Guys So I am getting super close to having my engine back together and have a few final points I am unsure on, so if any of you can lend me your knowledge it would be much appreciated. So to it. Point #1 Running the engine in/ seating the rings. What is the best proven method as I have known of many different ones. Point #2 Does anyone have a full list of all the bolts threads and lengths just for reference. for the engine and its components.. Pics attached any advice on what to do next with the engine?

OOOOOOOOOHHHH high comp l30 "should" be in the car and run in by then... super keen for that, that's my birthday/wedding anniversary weekend so maybe I can come play. only interested in the Saturday tho and i will be needing some coilovers as i don't want to rock my boat. My only concern is, are there any rules regarding cars that can be entered.. I only own a 1983 280zx and would love to have a fun training day, but cannot find any info regarding age limits for cars. cheers Nic

Hey mate I raced DH and did alot of park and freeride stuff a few years ago, and one of my good mates Brandon Yrttiaho is a FTH Yeti team rider (his first DH ride was my Norco back in 07) but as has been said id all depends on what you are going to be doing most. no point buying a DH bike if your doing x-country same as no point buying a Hardtail if your wanting to hit some hard DH trails. sounds like you would be best off with a x-country from what you said tho. extra set of wheels with hybrids and then a set of knobbys. My old man knows the guys who import GIANT and he gets a mean discount i can see if he can help you out if you go down that track. But he has a Trance X3 and it is such a damn good bike to ride. you can pick them up new still (2012 stock) for 1500-1700. if thats too much try the X2 still a great bike just the 2010/2011 stock ones. ive used that bike on some intense DH tracks up in brissy and it held up, a little bit sketchy compared to my old Team DH but we are talking 1700 vs 10,000 All in all for a good solid bike that comes with some good parts and a good solid frame, your looking at 1400+ thats cheap for a mtb in my experience. just my 2c cheers Nic

Hey guys I have been lurking here for god knows how long, but finally think it's time My love for Z's started eons ago as my old man had an import company and we had a 240z for a customer when I was about 13/14, skipping forward 7 years and I met my now wife who had a burnt orange 260z with a l30e in it, built by her grandfather (top bloke is helping me with my current swap and hes well into his 70's). It got written off and we used the insurance coin to buy a 280zx as we couldn't afford another 260 (The last one as it was with the l30 cost us $1500). I have been looking around here for a long time and been a active Hybrid Z member but noticed you guys here are alot friendlier and also based in this amazing country. So yeah I'm currently in the process of just rebuilding my first l28e, nothing fancy just a little bit of headwork, new pistons, rods, cam, crank, new timing gear and valves and just rebuilding it from the ground up. The engine is currently at the machine shop and picking it up next week to be in and going by Christmas And that's about it. I look forward to many hours of information and learning as much as I can from you god damn brilliant people. Cheers Nic
