  1. Hi all I know from reading threads that you can't put a 280 clutch pedal onto 240 box, but can you fit a whole box from a 280 onto a 240 firewall? I'm doing an auto-manual conversion and looking at getting as many parts from a 280 scrapper (gearbox, flywheel, clutch cylinders, pedal box, rear calipers, diff, brake booster, master cylinder etc.) Also, if I get the rear calipers, is it advisable to get the brake booster and master cylinder too. And is there any real advantage for the 280zx diff over my 240 auto one? Cheers
  2. Hey Andrew Looks like Zs are on a roll here in Sydney (and red ones at that). Where abouts are you? I'm Northern Beaches and use my '72 daily. Be good to meet and swap ideas? Cheers Martin
  3. Hi Is the car manual or auto? Cheers Martin
  4. Cheers guys Have saved myself buying an odd-looking garden gnome!
  5. Hi all Looking for a 5-sp to replace my '72 240z's auto. Can someone tell me if this will fit? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320710751731&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1156 Doesn't say if it's for a 4- or 6-cyl. Cheers
  6. Hi Does anyone have a road-240 on 17s that handles and drives well? What have you had to do to the arms, shocks etc to make it so? Or do they handle bad with this size wheel? I want a car that's fun to drive, not just good to look at. Am just about to buy a set, but it'd be great if this forum can come through for me before I do. I notice plenty of views but no replies on this topic. C'mon guys, imparting the knowledge is what makes sites like these essential...
  7. Ok, time to get the final verdict – what will my car handle like with 9 x 17 (-13, 225/45) and 9.5 x 17 (-19, 245/40) wheels and tyres. Will it find more road imperfections than with my current 15 x 8 (205) set-up? How will the steering be affected? How will it handle bumps, pot-holes etc? And what will I need in to correct the camber difference that comes with lower suspension and bigger wheels. Is it best to do the adjustment with adj lower control arms, spacer blocks between the shock strut and the lower arm or weld-in plates on the inner wings? Is there anything else that I can do to retain the drivability of this street-only car with the bigger wheels? Any help here appreciated. Cheers Martin
  8. I looked, too. Took me an hour to bike there and I'll never get that hour back. Ended up buying a much cleaner/stronger/straighter example private for less money and use it all the time. Honestly, look elsewhere.
  9. Have mailed you re lights and windscreen. Cheers Martin
  10. PM sent re headlights
  11. Thanks, have just put a hammer to every bit of glass on the car. Now smells fine, but how do you get bugs out of your teeth?
  12. Hey Slowly getting high on the fumes in the cabin – only happens when the windows are down. Who's got the skinny?

    Rough ride

They're 5kg front and 6kg rear. I've added some height front and rear and cut the bumpstop rubbers down so now there's about 50mm of travel. I'm thinking shocks, too, as it reacts to every bump rather than soaks it up. By bobbles I mean constant small up and down movements. It's not floating over the road but following every contour. What's the thinking on new shocks (bearing in mind the car will only be used on the street). What's the cheapest to dearest?

    Rough ride

Hi Have just put adjustable coilovers on the car and the ride's interesting, to say the least... There's only about an inch of travel and it 'bobbles' on smooth roads and bounces on rough. Have the spare set of 14 wheels with 195/70 tyres so plenty of 'give' there. Shocks aren't new and I don't know how old they are. Where do I start?
  15. Hi looking to convert my car to manual. Has anybody a 5-sp they want to sell, along with the parts needed for the swap? Cheers
  16. I'll take the brake shoes. Details PM'd.
  17. Hey when you say no match for the original do you mean in performance or looks? And what model Toyota?
  18. Being tall and constantly smacking my cranium on the tailgate, I'm wondering if it should open higher. The gas strut works fine, extends fully but might not be original spec. Basically, when fully open the bottom edge of the hatch is 1.35m off the ground. As I'm 1.88m, it's not a happy marriage. Can someone measure their car's opening so I can see if mine's standard or not? Cheers Martin
  19. Hi guys Looking to convert my L24 and auto to 5-speed and L28. Will need all the stuff for the manual conversion - pedal box, master cylinders etc. Alternatively would buy a complete (cheap) 280ZX. What's out there? Cheers Martin
  20. Hey What's the difference between the RB and RB-X wheels?
  21. Are you sure they're out of your price range? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320677175812#ht_646wt_1167 I'd rather my Z. And $640,000+ in the bank...
  22. Ahh, thanks for the advice, tho it's a bit good-cop-bad-cop re the 17's. For everyone saying go for it, there's another saying don't. Want to go 17 and flares but drive the car most days and the rego in Sydney clearly hasn't been splashed on the roads. Would hate to cut the rust-free guards to find out I hate driving the car. Any opinions on 16" with higher profile tyres, maybe a 55 or 60?
