  1. Like this one here Greg http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Battery-Isolator-Switch-Cut-Off-Disconnect-Power-Kill-100A-Key-For-Car-Van-Boat/253244781027?epid=3008782693&hash=item3af690b1e3:g:iRAAAOSwUYNZ~-ZJ
  2. What about those master kill switches that also isolate the alternator?
  3. The engine to be used is already wired up to a Haltech ECU with it's own loom so that will make things simpler. Yes, I will draw up a wiring diagram both for the install and to keep in case of problems later on.
  4. Thanks Greg, the diagram is courtesy of Mr Google. Yes, having separate switches for fuel, ECU and ignition is not really necessary I guess and as you say the ECU controls the fuel pump, can always pull fuses for any testing. It might be an idea to have a keyed master switch to activate everything and use a toggle switch and a push starter button, both mounted on the transmission tunnel, to start the engine. On a race day the master switch can be left on so to start the engine only the toggle switch and button need to be used. No keys to worry about. I have a 8 circuit DIY wiring loom, just want to get the final design and layout right. There is electric steering but given it will draw a lot of current it's own separate circuit seems best using a high capacity relay and a circuit breaker.
  5. Please see the other copy of this topic, if I edit one it affects the other so I can't get rid of this one.
  6. For the Z31 project, it will have an aftermarket ECU, electric fuel pump and so on, just the usual basics. I was thinking of having separate switches for the fuel, ECU and ignition systems so that each could be activated separately when testing etc but normally they would be left on with one master switch and a push button starter doing the usual starts. Found the diagram below which looks OK, expert advice and comment please.

  8. At that time Nissan had the four litre 195hp V8 used in the President, don't know what it was like. Didn't a US maker fit V8's to S30's and sell them as new cars? While at the time we were more used to straight 6's Murricans loved their V8's but any performance version would have been good. The S30's success must have come as a bit of a shock to Nissan seems to me like conservatism kicked in then.
  9. Interesting, sounds like in reality Nissan got cold feet on improving the S30's performance, a decent V8 would have been sensational and would have been a big seller in the US despite their excuse.
  10. Just in case someone is interested in fuel tank foam, ran across the Jaz instructions. They say that the foam expands with fuel and to to dry fill only 75% of the tank's capacity with it.
  11. Agree that the S30 is still under valued, about 20 years ago having decided to get into performance sports cars I went through all 70's makes and models car by car looking at their specs and their potential. Ended up choosing between a 911 and a S30, they were the two stand outs with the S30 getting the nod as being a better all rounder with more potential. Still think that's true today.
  12. Bathurst is a hell of a circuit and almost impossible to get just right but I fluked a great lap (for me) in the IMSA 300ZX and went over a second below my previous best lap. It is all about practice, practice, practice. Two 30 is a pretty realistic balls to the wall lap time for the S30 going on the real times the boys have done there.
  13. You blokes better set some ground rules, like no driver aids for the S30?
  14. Much prefer a 370 to a 350, I don't know what the Prod Sports rules are but as usual with Nissan the engine would be the problem although if allowed a R35 engine would help. These guys did OK against a Porsche GT3 using the stock 370 block with R35 heads http://www.turnology.com/features/video-how-to-embarrass-a-997-gt3-cup-with-a-nissan-370z/ Flogging a dead horse, for Sc make it strict showroom floor or give the slower cars a choice as to what improvements they would like. Not going to happen I know, absolute self interest rules.
  15. Yes, I only got involved because it would be good to see S30's compete on a level playing field but realistically that's not going to happen. The time to make a determined effort for improved specs has long gone and going over that failure is not going to change things. Personally I would not spend the money trying to compete with a S30 against Porsche's particularly, a great deal on a race 370Z came up the other day, go chase Porsche's with that or borrow Phil's LS engined 280ZX.
  16. Well that's sorted then, it's pretty obvious that my welds are not the most photogenic but penetration baby, it's all about penetration as Dave said.
  17. This is an unusual post but from posts in other topics apparently a couple of those who prefer not to be straight forward and comment here have issues with my welding. Yep, they need to find fault. To 'reassure' them I am going to put some extra tags on the cage which was mentioned to the cage bloke. He said, look, I can see that your welds are sound but some consider only appearance so best to avoid any welding on the cage that's visible. Tack them in place and I'll finish the welding off he said. Happy everybody?
  18. Oh for flux sake, all I'm interested in is fact. So if someone deliberately gives false or misleading info then I will have a go at them, not personally like one or two others here including you but simply in this case to try to get what's required clear. Of course by doing this those whose self interest may be affected get upset at me but I'd rather try to help in the way that I can rather than sneak around in the background like some here do trying to score points when they think the opportunity is there.
  19. Bullshit. Gavin's post to you on 20 Dec was at 8.42am, yours to him was first after his at 6.27pm, 9 hours later. Now you say that you were not referring to that post at all. You may fool some people ............
  20. This is what you said Jason concerning Gavin's thought that a dealer stamped options cattle dog may be of use. It's quite clear from the above that you dismissed Gavin's comment. Suggestion for you, if you are going to change your story to suit the circumstances then don't forget what you have already said.
  21. To add a bit more to the rear spoiler discussion, quoting from a Competition Car Aerodynamics test of various size and angle flat plate spoilers, downforce at 180kph ranged from 150kg to 252kg, drag correspondingly from 8 to 59kg. Pretty substantial numbers eh.
  22. Now you are back with your original story Jason so why did you nix Gavin's comment about pursuing the dealer stamped option cattle dog lead? Obviously it's possible that someone from such a dealer may know, and could even have a record of, dealer fitment of option parts. That's all that was being suggested and anyone with half a brain could understand that. Lurch doing a troll couldn't, neither apparently could you. I find it amusing that you and your mate are so desperate to come up with something to criticise me about, it appears that some of the tech stuff in my Z31 build thread is a bit beyond you. Is that what it's about? As for reputations, every time at Bathurst someone who finds out I'm from Qld asks if I know you and then proceeds with telling something that is not complimentary at all about you. And as for the Qld Z car club, well.
  23. But what's plentiful in one country may be rare in another. I'd ask for $300, after all the buyer can always come back with a counter offer.
  24. The problem is Jason that over time you have changed the relevancy of certain Sc eligibility criteria, what you and chook have now come up with is a new one, not that it's definitive. Previously it was all about sports option parts for Datsuns, Porsches got wider wheels because a dealer fitted them and same with carbs for a British car. That's all from memory but it's all on this forum, that's the problem for people who change their story when it's all in writing. I can only guess that you ran this nonsense in the past because at the time you had a Sc Zed for sale. Pathetic.
  25. If you seriously think chook that factory weight is worth nothing in these circumstances then I suggest that you you go back to chopping rust and leave the discussion to those who have a brain. The Sc eligibility thing has been going on off and on here for ages and only now do you decide to provide fresh information, apparently not to help but to score points as seems usual with you. Not that a dinner table conversation is definitive.
