He, he sorry about that, close but....I wish I saw your face after waiting 2 hours on dail up to watch eight minutes and no green zed!! There were NO Datsuns at all in Rally Tas this year.....sad but true, when are you starting on that N/A motor???
-
We are the last car, after about 8 minutes. What its all about. This is how fast you can go in a Commadore.

Thanks Warren, I'll check for extra holes. If anybody is under their after 72 240Z could hey please measure there prop shaft length?
-
Top secret, but a very tidy metallic green 260Z two seater is relocating from Launceston to Burnie....the owner also has a pair of 2 plus 2 doors and a hatch for sale, if any one is interested?? send me a PM and I will pass it on. Hey Mick, got the grunter going yet?? Highcleare hillclimb is only two weeks away!!!

I am doing up an early 240Z, 1970, and was wondering if anybody knows about the different diff locations between the early and later 240Z's? My understanding is that the diff was orginally to far foward and put a lot of pressure on the drive shafts and they changed it on the later ones to square the shafts up. My question is, is there an easy way to tell if the conversion to the later set up has been done with out the diff or half shafts in?? (eg. drive shaft lengths??) I've just removed, sand blasted and painted my rear suspension and was hoping to check this before I refit it all. Thanks Hodgo.

Heres a couple of photos from the weekend........All he has to do now is get rid of that silly turbo, fit a grunter N/A donk and use that rally licence he has!!!
-
I remember reading a magazine article about this car and they said it was like driving a big block!! Harry ran Targa in '93 and dnf'd as noted above, heres a dodgy photo.......
-
Found them, the local Datsun engine guru uses wade cams, just looked them up, and guess what they match!! 479c is 76 degree and 487 is 72 degrees. fixed.
-
Sorry Lurch they came with the car, and the owner is no longer with us, the car was sponsered by Z spares, so I presume they came from there? if this is any help, I will do some more digging.
-
All right Gurus, I've got a couple of cams in stock, one stamped 487 and the other 479C, I was told the 497C was a 74 degree cam, can anyone confirm this and also do you know what the other is?......hold it.... the plot thick'ns I just checked in the shed, I purchased a downdraft L18 head a while ago, and it came with a spare, I was told, 76 degree cam stamped 487....does this all tie in? Thanks

Your spot on Zedman, 1:1 5th with a low diff ratio is a pain on the road, and your right about the age thing, a good low km one is hard to get. The 280zx option sounds smart NZeder, I wasn't aware of the better shifter etc on the RB box, all sound's good. Look's like I'm a bit late to ask Santa for one?? Lurch they are fantasic on gravel rally's (and hillclimbs) where top speed is not so important as punch out of corners, horses for courses.

Have a Happy and safe Christmas and New Year everyone. Hodgo.

Lurch, I was firstly told around $800 a gear, but it's really $660 a gear (or was?) plus postage to and from...so $1920ish for a three gear set plus postage etc, etc, etc. So can anyone tell me why the Option1 is weaker than a 260zed box??? What did Stan say Zedman? I've had one in my 1600 for 8 years with no problems, the 240Z I have has had one in it from the mid 80's and done thousands of compition km's, including years of Tas rally champs, rounds of the ARC,Targa Tas and Rally Tas, behind a very strong L28...no problems. This box was sold before I got the car, so do I put the Option1 from the 1600 in it or build a Zed box up? The reality is a modded zed box, Overdrive 5th is a great thing when your changing diff ratio's for every event...and a big torquey six shouldn't need one (unless it's on the Gravel, or a megabalisic cam)....well at least I have the 'Option'...Oh yeah, they are a magic thing.
-
Sorry to drag this up again.....does anybody know what it sold for?? Where are they weak Lunch? Syncros? or the gears them selves?? would you say a 240K/260Z box is stronger? I've just done a price up on Albins 3 speed gear set, and by the time you buy a box (I've got a 240K box in the shed), get the gears done, new barings and syncros etc and paying someone to build it, guess what..over $2500. Sorry if this is the wrong bit of the forum to ask silly questions....

Hey Hunter, I was talking to Elf last weekend, and it looks like he moving along very well getting the 300zx ready for 'tugga', It looks like the cage is in and he is looking for seats, bigger brakes etc, and I think he said he had entered. He's a wild boy behind the wheel and should go well. It looks like 'Duck' will be dragging out his blue 240Zed to do some gravel events next year as well, after he carved us all up in a VN wagon at the Gravel hillclimb last weekend....old bugger!!!

Thanks to Dodo i've been off the air for a couple of weeks, I looks like I missed some action!! Like Shane said ZZZ8, You completly missed the point....by about the length of the sweeper at Symmons. Your comment seems to be a big over reaction to a quick, throw away dig at your race track comment. I dont think I was the one being childish, This 'My team is better than your team' attitude will get us nowhere, It's all very silly, and that was my point, who cares what you drive, just as long as you drive it. Next time your down on your 'Tassie tour' I'll shout you a beer and we can have a talk about the differences between a 1600 and a Zed, As I'll have raced both by then, and will be in a good position to comment.

Hey ZZZ8, Have a look at this....go down to the Symmons Plains bit.... http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=6308&start=0

One a year sounds good Mick, we better plan one next year. Curley is a weapon in his GTR, I was just looking at some photo's of his old Yellow FJ20T Bluebird wagon understeering off the road at Barrington a few years ago...

It's a magic hill the mighty Barrington!! I had a ripper of a day there in March. The classic challange looks like an excellent event, It keeps slipping under the radar which is a shame. Doing it on the bike would be fun!! My brothers 'other' car is a SS Crewman, with heaps of GO, Something that is 600kg lighter with the same engine would be awesome, I'm looking foward to seeing it in action.....
-
We are more a 'League of Gentlemen' than a club..... Good photo Mick, was it at the mighty Barrington hillclimb during the Classic Challange?? I'm sure the Zed spoiler made all the difference. Did you get the one's I emailed? I could of done with a little Datsun back up at the Clubday at Symmons last weekend, there were Wankles everywhere! pesky things.....Did I mention that my brother has a R100?, a little shamefull family secret we dont like to talk about! This 4 round race series the Mainlanders are talking about sounds like a good thing, I'd love to pop over and do an event at Phillip Island or Sandown?
