  1. Well done Gav , the best way to promote zeds / datsuns/ nissans is to get behind OUR national event and help out whether it be advertising , money , prizes , marshalling or just entering. Keep the zed dream alive and make it a grand event. Usually the best way to change something is to become involved and be proactive not back away and criticize others good intentions. GO ZEDS etc
  2. But you partake in a site that is solely for Zeds, interesting. Weren't we celebrating 40 zed years at these nationals Personally I like checking out other Nissan /Datsuns and chatting with their owners, but then I love admiring any make or model vehicle ...ala at the Picnic at Hanging Rock. It's a reality these days that to run a successful event big numbers are needed to ensure no monetary loss,so I don't care what they call the event as long as the car club that organisers the event doesn't lose dough.I also appreciate the effort and time that it takes to setup and run a large event ,given that, perhaps they are entilted to call it whatever they like . People who boycott these nationals are probably cutting there nose off to spite their face i.e.for if we all took that attitude then there will be no nationals and I'm pretty sure we who use this site wouldn't take up the challenge of running a similar event ...i could be wrong but we don't have a committee etc for starters. I didn't care what the nationals were called this year I had a great time meeting other like minded car nuts . Perhaps look at the bigger picture
  3. Steve and Deb...chev z....90% sure, waiting on final date to confirm and commit 260 z 2+2...V6 chev
  4. On its website there is an ad for silvermine motors that has brake upgrades...as mentioned in my last post . I think I clicked on performance partners then Silvermine Motors Don't thank me lochie it's OK ol' buddy On a more sensible note I see your now advertising for Restoration work etc , good on ya hope it goes fantastic for u...this ad has been authorised by the Yaridni farming party
  5. I'm a bit slow , you don't just look like a kettle for no reason lochman. I actually searched our site first to see if this had been written about before , only to come up with NO results, hence the post. Oh well some might not have seen your reference , "doesn't maaatterrrr"...con the fruitier accent By the way thanks for the headsup about this site when I was considering brake upgrades ol' mate...NOT...lol Has anybody done aprice comparison between the Ar z and these brake/suspension upgrades[silvermine motors ]
  6. I thought this may be of interest to those looking at better brake setups, thats why I looked anyway. Overall a pretty good site , prices seem reasonable and it would be interesting to do a comparison with the Ar. Z upgrade. Punch in ....Beta Motor Sports...and start looking
  7. My mother had a similar crash when I was 7 yrs old . A bloke didn't give way and clipped the rear of her vauxhal sending it onto the footpath hitting a letter box ,then into a power pole which resulted in the car flipping onto its roof with the pole snapping off at ground level and laying on top of the vehicle, live wires everywhere .Thank goodness the power pole was rotten and was marked for replacement. The bast...d other driver put his head in the drivers side window asking for her licence etc with myself ,a mate and mum still in the car. Somebody must have been looking after us tho , as noone was hurt.My friend lost his school shoe , mum had a bruise and a laddered stocking and me absolutely fine. No seat belts and the dash came back 18 inches. The funny side was that my younger brother was so relieved to have us home safe that he jumped the across the nieghbours fence straight into a rose bush and ended up with worse injuries than us ...lol
  8. Work ethic I'm sorry those words don't compute Hell Lurch u bloody well know I do ACTUAL farming , well close to it as I ACT like I'm farming, anyway thats the sort of gratitude I expect from u ......didn't see u knock back a bed at your farm stay birthday pressie or the homemade birthday cake with elaborate decorating...Jane put up the photo on face book ...notice everybody he didn't even have the decency to do his hair for dinner
  9. I only have the Willwoods on the front as the rear is a S12setup, I am going to replace the inadequate rear brakes with four potters i think. The Ar. z brakes will be great once everything is sorted. This is starting to be very annoying / frustrating as I'm sure I stated recently that the car will basically stay the same so it can be driven and enjoyed . Simon the brake pads are the Ar.Z ones that are sent with the callipers.Might have to look into the USA hawks, I used the hawks on the 260.
  10. Typically my organisation skills are crap, Deb and I decided to do the Bay to Birdwood run in SA that weekend so that makes me a no starter at my home track again. Everything seems to double up ,then you have nothing on for two weekends. Enjoy yourselves
  11. This might sound a bit weird , but I found that there wasn't that much difference in driving technique. Other drivers had warned me about the grip going from great to nothing without warning , but I found that the car gave me time to react, it might have been less reaction time but it was enough. The most notable difference being the time it took for the tyres to get enough heat [become sticky] into them. This meant that the first half lap was definately more treacherous due to sliding front and rear. I'm still not happy with my brake setup, so I was apprehensive about standing on the brakes late, especially after race 2 when I discovered that I had worn the rear pads back to metal on metal.Kept on racing tho...lol The car setup wasn't changed between the 2 races i.e slicks against semi slicks, but the engine was dialled up another 300 rev on the limiter.Interestingly the outcome of the slicks creating more corner speed meant that the car reached the limiter at approx. the same spot on the track as at the previous revs setting. Overall the car felt good, my gear changes need to improve heaps .The standard T56 holden 6 speed has very slow synchro changes , so if you try shifting fast you lock yourself out of the gear your after, very hazardous when relying on engine braking to help stop you. If your after easy time savings per lap slicks are brilliant, cheap 'no', but effective.
  12. Winton raceway LS1 240Z ...now with slicks ..... 1min 35.8 sec previous best time was ...with semi slicks.....1 min 38.7 sec Came in second in the Super TT lites, times were taken on your best standing lap added to your best flying lap.I was beaten by a Nissan GTR by approx. 1.3 sec on the standing lap and only 0.2 sec on the flying .So I was pretty happy overall , worse luck the GTR blew its engine.
  13. As a farmer Sirpent, I can understand the experience of sleeping with a goat being a good one, as long as it's a PRETTY one. Well I reckon that the original thread has run its race , as we are back to speaking rubbish , a great time to CLOSE THIS TOPIC
  14. I couldn't be happier now that the dreaded Karma is gone , BUT how about we have a nicest person vote section instead , surely no one could be offended or people abuse the voting system...lol Vote for CHEV Z I reckon he's a top bloke , OK so I'm slightly biased and probably insane
  15. Lets face it madz you bought a mechanically great car and you thought karma was fun because it put Lurch in a good mood when you boosted his to over a 100...lol DELETE KARMA this will stop the rot There is heaps better to talk about , how about we help " luvemfast " with his premature sex problem...not a great moniker/post name Simon
  16. Forget about Karma , I like to check out the number of people that have viewed some threads that I have started, yep rather self indulgent I know [perhaps up myself is better ?? ] But I feel that I have contributed positively to this site if other members and visitors have taken the time to enjoy and hopefully get something informative out of my ramblings. By the way checkout .....race pace cornering[page 5 ] and race pace cornering update [page 1 ], in the 'suspension' section.....8171 viewers can't be wrong LOL....."don't worry be happy"...By bob marley
  17. Never worried or bothered about this Karma thing , I personally think it is irrelevent to this forum "Karma" didn't Boy George sing about it ??
  18. Ah racing aint it grand look on the bright side atleast you were out there having a go hope it doesn't cost to much spoke to a guy at Winton today and he told me to look up Drive Bathurst, what do you know about it ? Sounds awesum but expensive
  19. Attacked the car last Thurs. & Fri Finally finished the front brake and coilover upgrade , well up to the final height positioning and wheel castor/ camber and alignment If you haven't gone down the Arizona Z upgrade yet , I have discovered it's best to have a bloke that is handy at welding and steel fabrication to work along side you, this upgrade isn't quite as easy as I first thought. I'm a pretty ordinary welder, to put my skills into perspective I wouldn't trust racing a car that was welded by me in the important areas of brakes and suspension Recapping the strut towers with the new gear and modifying the bracing mounts needed somebody with greater skills than I possess Overall the Arizona parts are well made and solid , boy the discs and 6 pot calipers look awesome, which probably is going to highlight the fact that the existing rim/tyre combo on the car isn't sufficient in width and stickyness to allow for the braking potential to be utilised. Nothing that money can't fix LOL...so they can wait I am actually getting rather peeed with my attitude of continually striving to improve the car, in each needy area ,instead of just enjoying driving the car.I need to have more time on the track and less time in the workshop Deb and I have only just returned from the Winton race track where we enjoyed watching the Historics racing.Only two Zeds raced placing roughly mid field ,names were Stanford [?] and Thomas, worse luck I didn't get to catchup with them. They were lapping in 1.43 sec to 1.45 sec on 195 width tyres in traffic, so I reckon they would be pleased with those times . How did the job interviews go? Rich is now going into the coal mines at Rockie and is down at Bris. doing induction training. Boy if your young and are willing to have a go, the financial rewards are tremendous. Although the lackof a social life does take the gloss of it a bit Any way Deb and I hopefully will be up T' ville soon so we can catchup then, thats if your still there...chow Steve
  20. You should come and play with my cars, perhaps a joint entry might be possible
  21. G'day Simon, first of are you intending to go to Deca this year? I think you will find that, generally speaking ,if you have been associated with parents /close friends being involved in club boards/ committees then you appreciate the time and mostly unappreciated effort that goes into running a club As an ex Melb. boy that moved to the country it is neccessarry to get involved with the groups locally and put your hand up otherwise the local football, netball, cricket ,tennis teams, hall committee, tidy town, fire brigade don't exist. I'm sure , this indifferent attitude to life by people these days has flowed over into recruitment of younger people onto boards [ i.e. people expect to be hand fed opportunities in life these days instead of taking a risk and achieving something for themselves]. , our town has that small a population, that young people are encouraged and expected to join a committee Perhaps the NDSOC could encourage guys like Saxon to joinup and get feed back and constructive ideas to further the club , or guys like Saxon could show some endeavour and get self motivated and joinup and contribute to a club with similar interests to themselves As JFK said ' ask not what your country can do for you , but what you can do etc' Getting back to original thread ,when I decided to get a Datto I immediately acquired membership in the NDSOC and this forum, I figured that the two would complement each other and I suspect there are heaps of forum members across Aus. that belong to a datsun club outside this forum. If these other clubs didn't exist then race events, nissan datsun nationals, club runs mostly wouldn't occur. Also the aquisition of CH plates would be even harder and I do like the idea that you attend a set number of functions to qualify for CH plates By the way you couldn't meet a nicer pres. and vice pres. that the NDSOC has now, they have gone outof their way to say hello and make my family feel welcome, well done Dave and Karen Before you are critical of something you should take the time to investigate it and make your own decision..... it's easy ,attend a meeting or contact a board member by phone , I did
  22. Just remember Saxon that all the pretentious wackos that you are referring to are also members of this site...lol
  23. As a member of both clubs and the wangaratta veteran, vintage and classic vehicle club, plus the benalla auto club I am of the opinion that if you haven't belonged to the club you are degrading and trying to incite hatred between age groups you should keep your thoughts to yourself ...until you become a member and actually participate on a board I have only participated in events organised by dedicated hard working club members of the above clubs and am yet to have a bitch about any club decision Rev I don't know you personally but I would like to think that your attack on the NDSOC comes from you being an EX club board member with a personal insight into the running of this club, otherwise your gripe is as good as a Julia Gillard promise. Rev , speaking of institutions how long does it take for your institution to analyse and implement a recommendation from your parishiners probably as long as the NDSOC does LOL I have been on many club boards/ committees and it never ceases to amaze me that the people with the biggest complaints are usually the ones that sit on the sidelines and do buggerall Have a nice day and my thanks to all the board members that make the clubs I am involved with exist
  24. Thanks for the replies, It has turned out to be auto transmission problems . Electrical selectors defective ,so the car stayed in 3rd gear only . This made the fluid overheat , so the computer recorded a engine fault The beauties of modern motoring computers, if you have the diagnostic computer with you you have a chance of fixing it Ah the good old days of a couple of tools in the boot , wire and electrical tape and of course the wife/ girl friends pantyhose [ spare fan belt for you youngins ]
  25. G'day all , my daughter is having some trouble with her commode 1994 model. She has just started work , as of tomorrow , at the Ballarat hospital.
