  10. G'day, Mine is a L26et and I put in a normal rpm clutch and pressure plate, i.e not button clutch etc. Over 5 years ago, it is a daily driver (I mean everyday!) it puts out some serious grunt (I embarrassed a WRX STI the other day) There is still no slip even when you dump the clutch in boost. At the time I was putting it in, I was talking to an enginering company in South Australia regarding a billet fly wheel and he was telling me that a nissan gtr clutch and pressure plate just fits the 260z, iv never tested the theory but he assured me that it does fit. Regards, Tony
  11. My 260z is a 2 + 2, I have had it for 5 years and I have never noticed it either. I just went out to get the details to register it on the Z register & that's when I noticed that it had sport stamped on it.
  12. Just a quick question, Does the Z compliance plate always have sport stamped on it. cheers Tony

    Framework sealant

I have never really looked at where it is made, it could possibly be a US product. I started panel beating in 1976, it was used in the panel shops back then & it is still used today. It is the same sort of jointing compound that is used by car manufacturers. It is usually sold in a toothpaste size tube at auto stores. It is a lovely sweet smelling product & comes in a checkered box. It has a similar consistancy to any other sealer & cleans up with 'prepsol' (wax & grease remover). Cheers Tony

    Framework sealant

The white stuff that you are talking about is called "drip check". You can buy it at most auto stores.
  15. Alan is right in regards to the cam & valve timing, take your time & check it as many times as you need to, until you know it is right, not think it is. Having built hot Hemi's & L series engines over the last 30 years I have seen a good engines turned to dust in seconds, so take your time ask questions. If you are putting new pistons in & getting a rebore get the machine shop to order the right pistons & rings to suit the rebore, also get them to press your gudgeon pins & put your rings on, this will save you a bit of a heart ache doing this your self. Keep us posted on your progress. Cheers Tony
  16. an engine rebuild could seem quite daunting, i rebuilt my 260 5 years ago. apart from a rebore and a head shave i did all the rest myself and it cost $2200, that included pistons aswell. the easiest way to make sure that your not getting ripped of is to get a price from a few auto shops on a full rebuild kit, which wont include pistons, that way you will at least know the parts cost. If you are taking the block in yourself, you are only a few bolts away from doing the job yourself, as your block will only need a home and your crank will generally be in an alright condition. if you have basic machanical knowledge or knows someone who has and get youself an automotive repair manual or a L-series rebuild manual, available on ebay, and follow them, you will have no trouble whats so ever on building your own engine. As mechanics will charge upto $80+ an hour, minimum 10 hours for a rebuild, plus any other unforeseen extras. so it could be quite a money saving option to do it yourself. Plus you will always have these pages to ask questions. cheers, Tony
  17. G'day gilltech, L series engines have been around for a long time there wouldn't be an older mechanic out there who hasn't worked on one, have a look in the yellow pages for a workshop that specialises on nissans or jap cars, ring them up and have a chat, go with the one that listens to you as to what you want. Just make sure you use quality parts, they don't have to be the most expensive, just don't buy supercheap. I run Hypertech pistons and Grant rings & bearings, good mid range parts,or you can buy from nissan, their gaskets are second to none, when you consider the high performance boys with there RB26's will use nissan gaskets, good luck. cheers Tony
  18. G'day i own at 260z and i replaced my rails a few years ago. i am panel beater, you dont have to go to all the trouble and expence of getting rails shipped in from the states, you can just measure up the size of the rail, including the lip section thats welded to the floor, go to a steel supplier with those measurements and tell them what thickness of steel you want and they will sell you the length you require by the meter. this is what i did, i bought the appropraite size in galvernized channel. it cost me about $6 a meter. the only thing you will have to do once you have bought the appropriate size channel, is to bend the lip over. i hope this helps, it saves you money. cheers, tony
