Z Run in memory of Josef Hainaut "Josepf"
sexual_sushi replied to sexual_sushi's topic in General Discussions
The service will be at "Billen Cliffs community hall at 1:30pm Sunday". I'm not sure about the times for accompanying the hearse from Mullumbimby. Steve's and gateway motorway makes sense to me. I'll be at the back of the tailgating scam, I already have front end damage anyway -

We could go out past Steve's house and get on the Gateway or go down Gympie Road and go through the Clem7 tunnel, either way a tag might be a good idea. Thoughts? -

Yes I will also be there, just let us know the times and we will get it sorted out. Greg, Steve and I live on Northside so I imagine we will meet around my house in Kedron just off Gympie Road, or at Steve's place in Clayfield. If anyone else would like to come just let us know where you would like to meet up. Shaun -

Hi guys, good to hear all the kind words. No info on dates or such yet. His sister posted this on facebook on Saturday: I'll post any new info when I get it. -
Now I haven't been very active on the forum lately, so I might have missed it, but what's with HS30-001 in Lurch's sig? More smoke and mirrors perhaps?

One of our forum members Josepf died in an ultra-light plane crash in nothern NSW yesterday. Steve and I met Josef at the Z nationals last year and since have had a few meets and party's here and there. He was a cool young guy, very friendly and always up for paying out Steve . He bought a 2+2 around the end of 2008 and it didn't take him long to get the car driving again. It needed a coat of paint etc but for now was just happy to be driving around in a Z. His family has asked if we would like to do a Z run in his honour, the memorial service will be in Lismore towards the end of next week. All Z guys are welcome to come and pay their respects. I will be driving from Brisbane so we can meet people along the way. I will update this post with the day and time etc when we know more details.

Haha this reminds me of the end of X-Men, far less epic though

PeterT patched up his old plastic interior panels and got an interior guy to cover them with new vinyl and they look great. It means you can repair any cracks etc and they end up being more solid. This would be cheaper than buying new 2+2 plastic panels, they are about 5x as much as 2 seater panels... if you can find them. Bar all of this, Hayden I believe his name is, associated with Rev's rug ZED emporium by the looks of it (please correct me if I'm wrong), can do the whole interior. His prices are good and quality looks great. Maybe get a quote from him to do your carpets and if you need your seats recovered, get his kit. They look like they fit even better than the motorsport auto kits.

Seeing as though we were pulling that center console around with all the wires for the head unit still attached, I would just check all of the wiring behind that. I bet you somethings grounding on something or not hookedup right behind there.

Hey Peter did you want to completely strip your parts car down? I'm replacing my gearbox this weekend and have a freind staying the weekend after but I could come out on the 15th and/or 16th of May? Need to make way for that pool table and bbq haha...
-
Haha Greg, will you charge extra for the grass clippings in the top coat? Haha I don't think Dad's work is quite up to par with old yella. Shouldn't complain though, I do get free rust repairs when he isn't too busy So I went to Gasoline Alley this morning and they didn't sound too keen when I mentioned 'old Datsun' and 'insurance'. Had a bit of a chat and he was coming around, then he saw it... waiting on the quote now haha. Very glad that a shop with a decent rep should be working on it. Also getting a quote to fix: Stone chip in front headlight cone Rust in Front guard Respray stone chips in front spoiler Fix crack on lead join on roof Rust spot in beaver/slam panel
-
All sounding good Matt. Let me know if you need a hand with anything. Not sure what I can bring to the table though haha.
-
In the roof where the hatch hinges. Multiple layered panels and not much room to work. I also agree with hatch and floors and battery tray and well any rust haha.
-
Haha I actually tried not to get my hands dirty but that didn't last long Haha speaking of weight, we took Dad's Range Rover box out, now that's a heavy gearbox.

Rebuilt Gearbox Swap - Any special requirements?
sexual_sushi replied to stevo_gj's topic in Gearbox
I think the holes have been tapped out to fit a different starter like Greg said. The long and short bolts can both be pushed right into the thread without any binding. The bellhousing was also slightly different at the bottom where the two small bolts go through that metal sandwich plate. One side had a bit more meat on it meaning the old bolt wouldn't fit through. Not vital and easily fixed, just another difference. The old box had L2 on the bellhousing from memory and 47 on the part that the shifter sits in. The new box had L1 on the bellhousing and 45 on the shifter part. The oil filler was on the passenger side of both boxes. Other differences where that the securing tab for the speedo sender was below the sender on the old box (L2) and above the box on the new one (L1). This again isn't a problem as the same tab can screw in there, just another difference. -
Looking good Pete, not too long now...
-
Haha no worries Peter Yeah I'll still take those parts. I could maybe swing around next weekend? Or any, no rush really. Ahh thats no good Matt, I'll go in there and have a chat this week, see what they say.

I think I'll try Gasoline Alley for the repair work...

So I was at the Gold Coast over the weekend for a freinds bday party and her Dad backed out of the driveway and clipped the front of my car Luckily the damage isn't too bad, bit of a scuff on the front bumper and a deep graze and slight dent in the hood. He has insurance so everything should be sweet. I took it suprisingly well. I suppose it's because it can easily be fixed and while I'm at it I will get some rust fixed in the guard, the large stone chip that has been on the headlight bucket since I got the car and I'll respray the front spoiler which is littered with stone chips. I had a funny feeling that something was going to happen to it that day... I'll upload some pics once my hangover goes away

Thanks mate, I'm in Brisbane
-
Thanks guys, I think I've got a couple lined up. If they fall through I'll let you know.

Hi guys, my 280zx 5 spd gearbox that I have had rebuilt 3 times has shat itself again. Thinking I might try another one, does anyone in Brisbane have a working gearbox lying around? Just don't want the car off the road for too long. Cheers Shaun
-
The guy whose job it is to roadworthy the car and some of those anti-hoon cops haha. All depends on where you take it though. My 74 got a roadworthy with just a filter on the breather on the block but then 6 months later I went to McDonald's to get a chocolate sunday and didn't realise it was bogan night and the cops out the front did a full inspection of the car and told me it was illegal :S It would definitely be easier to get away with once the car has been roadworthied though.

Here's a pic of my engine bay. Since this photo I have added a polished ignition coil and deleted the ballast resistor. In the future I will get a nicer looking battery and wrap it in stainless steel or chrome or something, replace the frayed break booster line, delete the inspection light and when I do my new engine I will hide the wires and weld up unused holes etc. Simon De Groot's very pretty engine bay
-
There are many different levels of cleaning up the engine bay. My advice would be to head over to Hybridz.org and find the thread something like "post pics of your engine bay", maybe it's because it is late but I can't find the link atm and it's giving me the sh!ts haha. Anyway look through every page of that and work out how far you want to get and get ideas form what other people have done. You will be able to get a cleaner look with the 240z round tops and they are also easier to setup/tune if you believe what you read on the forums (I believe tonyd in America has mentioned that the flat tops had a few problems from the factory but with those corrected, can actually be a better carb, but this is just all going from my memory). In my opinion, it would be too hard to get a nice clean engine bay without having the engine out and cleaning/repainting everything. If you want to go a step further you can weld up any unused holes in the engine bay and possibly hide the wiring by running it under the guards through the wheel arches. To further ad to the look, I like when the spark leads are laid around the front of the engine rather than over the valve cover (personal preference) and polish your bowls on your carby's, your valve cover and you can even put a chrome cover on your oil filter. If you have electronic ignition you can lose the ballast resistor under the ignition coil and you can buy a polished coil which looks a bit ncier too. An internally regulated alternator will get another box out of the engine bay. Fusible links usually have missing or cracked plastic covers, you can 'upgrade' the whole assembly to a modern fuse block which might look a bit neater. If there is anything you want to hide, consider some stainless steel or chrome panels to cover up some sections (check out Simon DeGroots yellow 240z for a prime example of some engine bay bling and covering panels) Crazy show level you might look at things like relocating parts such as the brake cylinders etc to the interior of the car but this is all a bit overkill IMHO.
