I've got about 10-11 of these radios I collected over the years and I can't recall seeing anything similar on any of the others, but then again most of them look a little worse for wear and weathered. I believe the 1 on eBay is potentially out of a 73 240z, since it was only used in early North American 240z's, perhaps they had to specify Australia on them in later years to ensure they were fitted to specific markets? As far as I know there is no band differences between AU and North American market radios. Unlike Japanese radios which generally require an expander to work here. When I get a chance I'll look through my collection of radios to see if I can see any faint scribbles on them (granted most will be from the US, so may not have the same inscriptions). *Edit the ad says the radio came out of a 71 240z. So that puts that idea to bed. But I recall removing the radio in my 71 and not seeing anything similar. But the yellow cad plating was very much a dull green colour by now and the radio was covered in dust. So I may not have noticed.

Currently there is an Hitachi TM-1081ZB(S) radio on eBay and it has similar markings on the outside casing. I've never seen these on all the radios I've come across so far. It's a good price. There will be a set of Twin 240z SU's coming up for sale soon probably on Gumtree. So would appeal to someone who has just bought a set to convert their 260z.

I'm gonna guess AST is short for Australia. A2 though, no idea. Which reminds me to look at my other dashboard in storage. It's missing the original glove box, but should have a mark where the steering column mounts up still.

Is the H-H photo out of your old car? I guess it's 1 way to check if a car is a legit HS30-H..

There is a total of 8 red interior HS30's I know of... only 4 of those have Silver (901) paint. The other 4 are (904) white.. So it's a really rare combo..

HS30 100986 - Looks like a heap of you know what... but it's quite rare to find a red interior car in 901 Silver. I hate bad previous repairs. Give me a neglected car over a poorly repaired 1 any day.. Like many of these cars that pop up again and again, I think they never really sell. Just disappear for a bit and re-appear.

Oh and I noticed that it appears the aircon compressor works. So it may just need a regas.

@HS30-H curious what is usually written on the globe box of a Fairlady 240Z and Fairlady 240ZG? Or for that matter PS30? And was there anything written on a PS30-SB since they didn't often have a glove box lid, but may have had a glove box shelf still? Even seen that?

So the horn hasn't been working... couldn't work it out. There was some additional horn in the engine bay near the airbox that was tapped into the horn loom. Think it may have been done for the alarm. Otherwise someone could disconnect the horns by reaching under the bumper. I looked in the Haynes manual at the wiring diagram and saw the horn circuit is pretty simple. It basically just grounds out to sound the horns. I also found this diagram on the web. I removed the additional aftermarket horn, reconnected both horns at the front, removed the additional loom that was aftermarket. Still wouldn't work... then I decided I'd swap the relay out from HS30 00150.. But it made no difference. I knew the horns worked because when the alarm was installed and I reconnected them, they went off.. So that lead me to believe there was an issue on the switch side. After a bit of faffing about, I removed the cowling around the wheel. Then I noticed the horn was working? I thought maybe I jiggled a wire and checked all the connections. Then I put the cowl back on and the horn stopped working. Perplexed I realised there was a loose wire (see photo). It looked like rather than solder the joint, someone had tried ti silicone it in place... anyway, I soldered it back so it's nice and secure and the horn now works. Success.. I had to remove the steering wheel to get to it properly though. I'm sure the neighbours were wondering why the hell the horn kept going off, but this was the last non-working road worthy item I knew would come up. Other items not working are interior courtesy light (which I think is the bulb), 1 reverse light is out (probably bulb) and the antenna switch doesn't work (or antenna doesn't go up and down).

Last I spoke to the OP he said old mate still wasn't willing to let it go. Since he's a neighbour I guess he's keeping an eye on it. I'm really curious what the chassis no. is since so few of these cars came with the Blue interior but a handful were around the high 9XX range. So far I realised my 71 240z with blue interior is the only RHD 240z in the world that is 904 white, blue interior and an auto box. Happy to be proven wrong, but it's the only 1 I know of in the world in that specification.
