  1. So minor update, using Acetone I managed to get rid of most of the green overspray on the housing using an old toothbrush to get into the crevices and the scour pad to get the tougher baked on paint. Acetone was also really good at removing the remaining gunk left by the adhesive / glue used to bind the housing and lens together. Rear looks great! But here is the hard part... the brown part looks baked on. I'm going to try and mix up some Retr0Bright because I believe this could be discolouration of the plastic due age / UV exposure. Since it's along the top edge (not so much bottom) and on the front of the housing not rear (facing into the boot). It is annoying because when the rear garnish is fitted to the car you can just see through the gap and see the housing. If the retr0bright technique works it should restore the plastic to it's original state. I'll be sure to document how it turns out..
  2. The switch in the car or the wiper arms themselves? What's wrong with yours? Is it missing or broken?

  5. Hi Everyone, This thread is going to be a list of Japanese Suppliers of S30z parts as I come across them. The first is Fairlady Office. Website: http://datsun-fairlady.jp/ Yahoo! Auction Store: http://sellinglist.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/user/fairlady_car_office I haven't had any experience with these guys, just noticed they sell some NOS parts that can be hard to obtain elsewhere.
  6. I'm going to restore both and put 1 in each 240z I have. I like the look of the stock interior. Our market seems to have only received this style of head unit. (70-73) Where as the North American market got a couple of different versions over the years and only got this unit for 70/71 cars. Which makes these quite a rare find. I believe the Japanese market had a different unit also (8 track?) but that might be for the PS30, I think the regular Fairlady Z-S and Fairlady Z-L might have had this unit. I'm not really sure? http://www.petrolicious.com/this-nissan-fairlady-240z-l-is-a-rare-japanese-survivor The Fairlady 240Z-L here appears to have the 8-track head unit. I'm sure you've seen the prices being asked for these on eBay and they are not going to get easier to find. It's also great that 240zrubberparts.com is reproducing the faceplates and knobs. I've ordered a couple through him but it takes a couple of months due to waiting on chrome plater etc.. You should probably order 1 also George, have you found an antenna switch for yours? Not too worried about a lack of music in the S30z, the music is from the induction sound of Triple Carbs anyway .

  8. Just waiting on face plates to be made and I can start on restoration of these!
  9. So worked on the other side tonight. On this side the housing has overspray from some time in it's history someone painted their car a horrid shade of green. The chrome trim and housing detract from the lens. You can just make out the tooling / stamping marks on this 1. I was more delicate when sanding around the stampings on the lens. But as a result you can still see some pitting around these so I'll need to go over these areas again. I wasn't actually aggressive enough around it. The stamping in the reflector area is easier to preserve simply because it's hard to get to with sandpaper. I'm hoping prepsol or paint thinners will help me remove the old paint off the housing.
  10. Good to see updates, a little scary that it was rusted near the rear shock tower. Never seen that before, but then again it is a Datsun . Is the battery tray permanently going to be held in place with nutserts? Any reason you didn't spot/plug weld it? Do you want to remove it in future? When you post all those updates in 1 go it makes me think you did this all yesterday. . Looks like panel gaps at front are nice and straight again.
  11. Hard to give advice on it's value without seeing photos of it. It is an early 240z and their values are going up. There is 2 thread here that will give you an idea on values I'd say. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15640.0.html http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2630.3075.html Please read through those to give you a sense of where your car might sit. Also you likely have the car insured right? What's it's insured value? Obviously that's what it's worth to you. Or are you fishing for a high price?
  12. Funny you mention the hubcaps they are not the correct version for a 70 model S30z. They are the later ones. I actually am not a huge fan of Silver used on early 240z's. My 72 240z was originally that colour and it just looks a bit too washed out. I have seen Silver 240z's look good though so I wonder if it's just the way the paint ages that doesn't help?
  13. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-STANDARD-/251974982995 1972 Datsun Z-Series - restored over 10 years ago. HLS3095210 Maybe the auto holds back it's value? At US $8,700.00 with 14 hours to go... Sadly not enough info to know if it's got any structural rust. Perhaps that's the issue here?
  14. http://www.petrolicious.com/this-nissan-fairlady-240z-l-is-a-rare-japanese-survivor Do want Watanabe's in black and chrome trim headlight covers!
  15. Antenna switch received today, thanks!
  16. I may still buy the MSA ones, seems to be reasonable value to me. Did you find the MSA ones just as good as OEM in terms of quality? They are quite 'thick' heavy pieces. Were the replacements the same?
  17. Patrol came with N42 and P90 heads. Check Gumtree, eBay there is a few wreckers that will like have N42's hanging around. If you get desperate I've got an N42 with a minor crack in it that will need repair and pressure testing, checked to make sure surface is good etc.. But at this stage I would sell it.
  18. Another option for tail light trims. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50787-better-than-new-240z-taillight-trim/
  19. I also forgot to mention the technique for removing or separating the housing and lens may vary, for me 1 of the lens had already separated - hence the duct/gaffer tape used to hold it on. However if your rear lights haven't been tampered with before you'll probably want to soak your lens unit in hot (as in really warm) soapy water or use a heat gun (carefully - keep moving don't focus on 1 spot and don't go too close) to soften up the adhesive holding the lens to the housing. There is also a retaining ring used on the chrome trim that holds the lens and housing together, you need to remove this also. Chances are it will break when you attempt to do so. There is a product called Q-BOND I'll try to use and repair the stalks on the chrome trim piece. I am also considering ordering from here. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/33-1169 Good reference on what the push nuts look like and removing them and replacement etc.. http://woodworkerb.com/home/datsun-240z-rebuild/refurbish-tail-light-assembly/ Those retaining nuts are called 'push nuts' apparently. http://cliphouse.com/PushNuts.aspx I really need to find a good fastener place in inner west Sydney, everyhing is about 30-45 mins away (when you take into account Sydney traffic) from me.
  20. Yep from the link above http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,9411.msg104996.html#msg104996, and as recommended by member 'specialp3' link to user: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1682 See his photo gallery here: http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=lastupby&cat=0&uid=1682&page=1 http://www.bronzingstudio.com.au/ http://www.chrometech.com.au/ They are in Castle Hill Sydney - I'll be sending my chrome trims to them for restoration. Sent an email enquiry to see if it's cheaper to do multiple items at once or same price to do them individually as I go.
  21. Grey tail light surround will give good contrast. Car is looking good. Nice go see an early car .
  22. No mine is the Silver car at Bathurst.
  23. I was going to ask about that, can't wait to see what you've got. I'm sure Alan is also waiting with baited breathe to see pics of TKS33 SA 4080.
  24. Mike are they the same size wheels between photos? The black makes them look smaller and somewhat more period correct.
  25. A few I like. Mine (before it was stolen), in Ireland. When it snowed. After I brought her back to Australia, restored her (repainted) and fixed damage. At Bathurst. I like this photo because it makes the paintwork look better than it currently is..Will detail it properly soon. Rally Clock / RHD S30z Pornography.
