  1. First to see will buy... If a car was that good it would sell itself without the used and tired cliche...Usually said cars linger on the market for a few months.
  2. Small update. Have cut out both sides for the vents and started to bend into shape. This will still need a little more dressing up to get the really defined edges, which I'll do in class on Tuesday night.
  3. Unregistered and no road worthy about $500 I'd say...
  4. I've seen the top stage one in person and it's not great for an original restoration. It would work ok in a race car (if you needed 1) but the quality is not up to OEM. @Peter who restored your console? Dashboard doctor in Melbourne?
  5. Yeah I hate that also, if you've just invested in a 'good' paint job, why would you be selling it? My other favorite. Engine recently rebuilt... Oh yeah? If you just invested several thousands in a good engine build why would you sell it? My other favorite is previous owner said engine was rebuilt but I don't have the receipts.... Owned by a little old lady.. So who is advertising it?
  6. Can't believe the colour of that fuel lol... OEM 1/4 panel is awesome score, getting harder to find. At least it doesn't look like it was hit in the passenger rear 1/4.
  7. All original - not original lol...
  8. This is what I'm personally trying to get more familiar with, I've noticed that many North American cars (HLS30s) were well into the multiple 1000 range by the time HS30's were only at the first 500. How accurate do you find cross referencing of L-series motor numbers in terms of production dates? I would think this is a pretty good cross-reference, give or take a month for most cars (when say comparing North American and UK / AU / NZ / ZA cars etc..). The problem with our cars is that they never had the date of manufacture on them like US federal law had mandated and our own compliance plates are stamped at the date they arrived ready for sale. Obviously various components on cars may have date stamps to help also, but many cars have been chopped and changed over the years. Also not all early 240z's had compliance plates. My guess is that compliance date is probably 2-3 months after build date. For example HS30 00150 is compliance date 11/70 - which puts it's build date around July 1970. FWIW original engine number is: L24-015253
  9. I believe our Luxembourg member bought some stuff from them recently. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14559-monkeymagics-1973-240z/ I personally wouldn't want a fiberglass roof on my 240z, but different strokes for different folks.
  10. 1 owner car - it's had 1 owner at a time... Thousands of dollars in receipts... Will sell cheaper without current wheels in picture (Usually gash looking 20" chrome jobs)... Best example in "insert country / region / town".. Won't need much for roadworthy, but too busy to organise it myself.... Very little rust... OR not rust... when advertising any old Datsun. Priced to sell... Why else would it be listed?
  11. I was watching these and was astounded... http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f171820352 140,000 yen, missing hardware and a gasket on 1 side, but both lens looked good and trims were ok. Seriously someone needs to reproduce these!
  12. "Needs full restoration" - Translation it's completely and utterly fubar and I've given up. This is a non financially viable endeavor therefore I'm offloading all it's rust and mechanical issues to someone else. So long and thanks for all the fish.. Or Wife wants it gone - Translation - I blame it on my partner but really I couldn't be bothered working on it anymore and I could use the spare change for a couple of tinnies and winnie blues.
  13. Was running fine when put in storage...
  14. "Strictly no time wasters" Or "No Tyre Kickers". I always wonder do time wasters see that and say to themselves "Oh no, I better not waste this person's time, they put a no time waster warning in their ad". I mean if they didn't put that disclaimer in, does that mean it's game on for wasting people's time?
  15. Sandblasting is the only way to know how true this statement is, are you willing to take that risk? *Edit, actually my advice is to go for the brown car. I've seen it in person and was impressed with it in terms of overall condition. Minus a few relatively inexpensive changes (not including the colour) and it's a great car. I would not let it's colour bother me, but obviously others may be harder to influence in this regard.
  16. Spotted in Marrickville Sydney by a work colleague. Based on RTA look up. I think it's a 1971 240z HS30 01635.
  17. Speedhunters article 1971 240z. http://www.speedhunters.com/2016/02/old-dogs-new-tricks-datsun-z-2-flavours/ Plate LB349 https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=LB349 Very impressed by the info NZ has on cars, probably thanks to WOF etc.. Listed as a 72 model, but clearly a 71 based on Chassis ID and center console with twin choke. Engine No. L24047321 Chassis No. HS30 01006
  18. I would have preferred the Silver 260z to have the VQ and the red 240z with Watanabe's to have the L-GATA in it. Looks like the 71 240z would be a good car to include in the early girl bingo thread.
  19. If you want to keep it on the road, find an L28 out of a wrecking yard that you can confirm is running and hopefully not loosing coolant. Stick it in the Z as a temporary motor and rebuild your original L26 on the side. If numbers matching is important etc.. No point doing a half-arsed head rebuild. Most second hand engine heads are probably well worn by now anyway and as Lurch mentioned need all the fruit done to them. That's why I spent good money on my E31, do it right. Do it once. My 2 cents.
  20. Just thought I'd post a link to this thread on HLS30 00013 - it has some interesting photos of early car details. http://forums.ctzcc.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4114 Also some good production info here from Kats. Says HS30-00001 was produced in 07/69 used by Nissan Shatai (test vehicle). Apparently 4th car built as PRIMARY PRODUCTION PROTO TYPE. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/36238-is-this-red-car-hls30-00007/?do=findComment&comment=324564
  21. I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with emissions and everything to do with federal law which appears to have varied on a per state level in North America. I recall reading that cars were shipped with the throttle only to have it removed upon arrival in the US. So many cars that would have had it, actually had it replaced / removed by a blanking plate. This means that the twin cable choke/throttle bracket is now quite rare. You can of course modify a non-handle throttle bracket to have a lever for a hand throttle if you really need to. I think the reason for this car having a later console is likely to be caused by a later gearbox being fitted, with the gear stick sitting further forward than the earlier 71A boxes would have. This would mean fitting a later console makes more sense.
  22. Did the 71A gearbox w/tail shaft to match sell in the end? If not I would be interested, but won't be able to collect for a while. Send me a PM if it's available.
  23. Are you sure it was Canadian? And not USD? I think otherwise I may have overpaid as I paid for mine in USD.

    Beaver Colour

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12178-datsun-greygray-paint/ Also: Rear beaver = lower valance area. Tail light surrounds = rear garnish / finisher panel / trims etc..
