mossy Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I just saw this cold air box on a thread on hybridz and thought if anyone is interested maybe we could get a group buy going? http://www.mjpshop.co.uk/product_info.php?id=113&pid=437 A better pic of it is here on hybribz, you have to log on though. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/99152-building-my-30-l-soon-pics/ Quote
redrbzed Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Hey Mossy, Have a look at this unit from EFI Hardware, might be of interest. http://www.efihardware.com/products/143/cold-air-box-6-cylinder-fibreglass cheers, Sinisha Quote
Riceburner Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Hey Mossy, the first one you show looks the same as a TWM airbox. I bought one of these from TWM in the states a few years ago for my triple dellorto setup, the finish was shite, see through fibreglass in spots and it wouldn't fit, fouling on the strut tower. After contacting them they then said it was for use on short intake manifolds only, such as Mikuni, Cannon, I was running a redline manifold. The problem may have been fixed by now, but could pay to check Quote
roastbeef Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I've got one of the MJP airboxes. They are based on the TWM airbox but with thicker fibreglass/ carbonfibre outerlayer and external fasteners. The modifications came about mainly due to what Gareth just talked about -(the twm box apparently assisted in detroying an engine when one of the bolts got sucked into the intake!). I haven't fitted mine yet but from what I can see it's built strong and should do the intended job. The carbon fibre weave is a bit crooked in spots but I didn't really buy it for aesthetic purposes. All the dimensions are on the TWM page so you can check if it fits before you go ahead. Quote
Sirpent Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Guys Just a suggestion, but if there were 10, 15 or more of you, why not chat to the new guy on the forum "Topstage" who does the CF gear. Ive checked out some of his stuff and have to say looks very impressive. Im sure that having a group buy based on a spec you all wanted would also mean a new market for him outside the forum for what would be a fast moving item. ????? Quote
luvemfast Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I also have one of the MJP versions. It is very solid and well made. It will not fit on a normal manifold, you need a shorter one. I haven't fitted it yet, one of the next jobs. Quote
mossy Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Thanks for the heads up on this guys, I'll be running a Kameari manifold so I'm not sure if it will fit, I do really like the look of it though and its good to know the quailty is good with the MJP version. I guess the other option would be the prince carbon airbox 260coupe was possibly looking into getting made. Thanks for the link Sinisha, I'll look into one of those as an option too. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I'll be running a Kameari manifold I have the same manifold on my Zed if you need a measurement. Quote
mossy Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 That would be great if you could do that Mark. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 That would be great if you could do that Mark. Either that or you could pop down to the Workshop Day on Sunday, i'll be around the area till monday 'ish. Or just let me know what measuements you need Quote
mossy Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 I'm not sure if i can make it on Sunday as the weekends are pretty much the only time i get to work on the z and with the baby coming I'm well behind where I want to be I'll be in touch soon though cheers Quote
Topstage Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 guys seriously, if any of you has one of this airbox i can replicate in Dry carbon infusion airboxost airboxes are handlaid etc. i made alot of airboxes for sport sedan racing V8, the difference in my carbon production is i use only 20% resin ratio compared to 40% resin ratio of pre preg carbon, so the less the resin the higher heat resistance it is. you guys can check out some of my folios in facebook, "topstage composites Quote
MaygZ Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Topstage, I can't help you with supplying a cold air box, or even recommend which one to get, BUT when all those that know about these things can get a sample or measurements to you, I want one from you. Seriously guys, I've heard some VERY good things about Topstage's work. Please get a sample of a good box to him, so he can build us all an airbox. Please. MaygZ Quote
Riceburner Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 What about Alan's prince airbox, he was looking at getting it moulded a while ago this would be the perfect chance and its supposed to flow very well. I'd definately get one of those! It's thinner too so possibly could be run with any manifold? Quote
luvemfast Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 What about Alan's prince airbox, he was looking at getting it moulded a while ago this would be the perfect chance and its supposed to flow very well. I'd definately get one of those! It's thinner too so possibly could be run with any manifold? True. Would be interesting to compare them on a dyno too. For it to be thinner, would you be able to use 50mm ram tubes? What manifold and ram tubes are you using Alan? Quote
260Coupe Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 G'day Simon I have a Cannon manifold and the Prince airbox accommodates 50mm ram tubes (as I have in mine), I will have to measure the overall width off the assembly however you can see from the pics it is a very neat fit . I was hoping to have my man start on the mould for the however he is still working on the Roadster air box so it is probably a few months off yet. Has anyone dyno'd the airboxes you are looking into ?.............it would be interesting to see how they flow. Alan Quote
luvemfast Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Your Prince style fits with the cannon manifold so would be the popular choice. Quote
260Coupe Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Ye I think they may be popular however the Prince boxes will not be cheap, the cost of the mould alone will mean that I'll probably need to sell 10+ at around $320 each just to break even .............given that the Zed community tend to be "frugal", I may struggle to recover costs with sufficient orders. I suppose the up side is that these are slimmer and dyno proven Alan Quote
mossy Posted April 11, 2011 Author Posted April 11, 2011 Maybe contact Topstage Alan, he might be able to do mould for a better price? Either way I like them both, just need the one that fits Quote
