Rear Spoiler Installation Procedure

Hi Guys,

I finally received my BRE-style rear spoiler from alfamotorsport and I have absolutely NO idea how to mount it.  :-\

It has come with no mounting hardware or instructions and no nuts or sockets embedded into the underside fibreglass for bolting into through the hatch.

Any ideas guys? 

Mine is screwed in from underneath.

I imagine it's probably just a few tapping screws into through a hole in the boot into the spoiler.

Easy fix mate.  It has a rear lip that covers the lip of the hatch which is a perfect fixing point that together with some very simple blocks (wood, plastic or high density foam) sikaflexed into place on the inside front of the spoiler will allow you to attach it free of screws.  Place sikaflex in dobs on the rear lip of the spoiler and on the blocks, place in position and hold firmly with 'blue' masking tape that will hold everything in place and wont remove paint when the tape is removed.  The benefit of the fixing method is that you ever change your mind you can get the spoiler off without having to weld up holes.

Just use a product called 'sikaflex' no need to screw it down

Well, I got out smarted I suppose. With the speeds I do I would not trust Sikaflex, but I can't see any negatives if it's just a street car!

i use sikaflex every day to put body moldings on. I have also had to take them off after being stuck on with sikaflex. I can tell you that any amount of speeds and wind that a zed can possibly achieve will not blow the spoiler of when stuck down with said product.

I'll be installing all manner of fiberglass body parts and panels later in the year. I might give it a shot. 240+kph though...

I will give it a go using plastic blocks as per Rev's procedure.  Luv this forum 

I attached the front to the hatch and attached the rear to a peice of right angle aluminium inside the rear lip of the spoiler which I also attached to the hatch.  I used screws and sikaflex but I'm sure sikaflex alone would be fine, it's awesome stuff!

Hey, should mention what you use to clean up too!! Is prepwash suitable?

Thinners/Prepwash for cleanup

Just don't use thinners if it's on lacquer paint work! just use prepsol it cleans it well.

hey guys same problem here, iv gone down to bunnings and there are so many different types of sikaflex which in particular would people recommend?

also any familiar with the vt/vx commodore spoiler mounting situation would u think sikaflex alone would hold?

I am surprised your Bunnings had any. 

I had to go down to Autobarn to get mine.  I used sikaflex-227 which is there automotive type and my spoiler is not going anywhere. No doubt you could use other types too.

It is in a black tube and is about $20 from autobarn. Thats the stuff you want
