Administrators gav240z Posted December 11, 2012 Administrators Posted December 11, 2012 Can't tell which is was and didn't want to nosey around it too much but since it was a rare bird thought I'd share. Can't be many of these around anymore. Quote
dat2kman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 We got that body as a Datsun 120y Hatchback. In South Africa they got it as a L series engine but at 1400 cc, ie a L14 four cylinder. Nose styling had a pronounced point, four headlamps, and tail lights as per pic, the pic shown is something like a SSS model, Two were brought into Australia, one driven by Skekar Mehta in mid 1970's Souther Cross ralles, it is still here. It may have had a LZ twin cam 1800 cc engine in it for the Crosses. Peter Mc, ask young Les, he may know more! Quote
luvemfast Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Wasn't there one for sale on Ebay herre a year or so ago? They look better than the usual 120Y's (sorry Jason). Think they even had some go fast parts from factory too. Quote
GTI-Z Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Is this the same car from the front? I remembered taking a photo of this at last years Datsun Day at Prospect Pub. Quote
dat2kman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 No, that one at Prospect is a Violet 710 These too were brought in for the Cross rallies, for Fury and Aaltonen, and Dunkerton in late 70's Simon, yes the 140Y? ( it does have a correct model designation, cant recall atm) did come with go fast bits, and did have better looking front and rear end than the bread and butter Aussie car. We just did not get the intersting models, across the whole Datsun range !!! Quote
gilltech Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yes that's the B-210, sold in Australasia as a 120Y with 1200cc push-rod motor. But motor could be 1200, 1300 or 1400cc depending on the market. I didn't realise the South Africans used a 1600cc as well but doesn't surprise me, they liked to put bigger motors into pretty much anything sold in their market, look at the Cortinas & Capris for starters. In North America the B-210 had the big chunky bumpers of the era. Front was generally pair headlights but some markets used a different grille with an additional pair of running lamps. Those taillights are completely different to the 120Y design we have here. The body was produced in 2-door hatchback, & both 2-door & 4-door sedans & wagons. FWIW NZ did local CKD assembly of the 120Y 4-door sedan & also did a limited run of SSS versions for racing, I owned one from nearly new & it went like stink - had a pair of 400mm twin-choke Dellorto side draught carbs, engine mods, lowered, alloys & other trick bits of the era.
