pauly_adams Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 hey guys. i purchased a z31 the other day for the wiring loom and gbox as i was considering doing a turbo conversion with a 4 speed box. long storey short it is a 2 seater hard top its 11/83 model and is turbo. the problem is apparently they dont exist in aus. i was going to part it out cause i thought i was buying a 2+2 but i was wrong now im considering fixing it but i cant track down a rear hatch. has anyone ever seen on in aus, did they ever get released here. and it has a vg30et in it also. cheers pauly Quote
luvemfast Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Nice. The 2 seaters look heaps better IMHO. Hatch might be tricky to track down locally. Don't think they we're sold here new, but are a few around. May find they we're private imports. Theres no way you could part it out. Pics? Quote
zzzzed Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Noooo don't wreck it. Either fix it your self. Or sell it to some one who will appreciate it. The 2 sweaters are very much an icon in the z31 community. I know of 2 in Adelaide. And one has been turned in to a track car Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 originaly i was going to wreck it but i though i was buying a 2+2, the guy who i got it off was saying it was a 2 seater but i just looked at him funny. i will now be fixing it as it has stuff all rust and no bog from what i can find, considering it has been in the weather for 6 years its in awsome condition. the interior is almost a write off but it may clean up just yet. it has all sorts of stange stuff in it like sensors going to the struts cruse control and it is also 5 stud but is a 11/83 model so it should be 4 stud. ayway here are some pics. if anyone knows someone with a hatch let me know please. http://s1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii571/pauly_adams/ cheers pauly Quote
260Coupe Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 NDSOC member - Allan Entwhistle has a Z31 two seater - he may be interested if you are selling or he may be able to track down some parts - PM me if you want his number Al. Quote
260DET Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 If it was mine I'd look at modifying a 2+2 hatch to fit. For the right buyer the car would be very saleable, make a good project. Quote
garvice Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Nice find. Looked for one of these quite a few times and never been able to find one. Quote
stevofoxono Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 In a few years if you're looking to offload it I'd love to take it off your hands I miss my old z31. I recon if i had another one with the knowledge I have now i could keep it from catching alight lol Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 in the end it will come down too $$$ if i restore which i want to or on sell, but it will not go cheap as it has a nice and shiny r200 lsd sitting in the back of her . i had a look through her and she is definatly a jap import it had in cabin adjustable suspension now has shocks. it has a bit of rust underneith but has none in any pannels non in dogles, roof etc so the job for tomorrow will be to move it jack it up inspect undercarrage, then strip the interior. and i also found the missing key thankfully. i will keep you all posted on the progress cheers pauly Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 25, 2012 Administrators Posted July 25, 2012 Definitely break it mate and get the good bits off it, Z31's are not worth anything and are rubbish cars. ...... Just kidding lol, wish I could see all your faces as you read that. Pauly, you picked up a rare car that some enthusiast will probably give you more money than you paid for it. You can turn around and sell it now for a tidy profit. Do you really want another project? I thought you sold up recently? Of course if you have fallen in love with it, go for it. Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 i love projects but this 300zx has very little rust, so im considering fixing it im going to be dropping the oil out tomorrow as it is not looking good aparently it had a blown head gasket but i will not be doing a compression test until the oil is changed. i will keep you all posted on the progress. so now my car collection in total has, 260z 2+2, 280zx 2+2 hard top, z31 300zx 2 seater hard top turbo, z32 targa 2+2 turbo, alfa alfetta gtv gt, mini clubman 1100 s, and a 91 camry Quote
stevofoxono Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 The z31 being your only 2 seater you can't get rid of it and you're only a 240/350/370 away from owning the full set Quote
Lynton Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Can't you replicate a fibreglass or carbon reinforced plastic replacement Lynton Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 http://s1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii571/pauly_adams/ i was thinking of getting a 2+2 hatch cutting it to the right size and then making a mould out of it then making one out of fibre glass. as for pics click on the link Quote
Stivva Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Buy a hatch from the states and pay the freight, it will cost you the same by the time you reproduce a replica. Or source one from Otomoto as they can access Japanese fibreglass parts Quote
zzzzed Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Seeing that it is an import I would make sure it is a vg30 and not a vg20. If it is a vg20 I would ditch it and put a rb25 in it. Or wouldn't it be cool with a webbered l28. Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 it is definatly a vg30et as i have nissan fast, how the car got here is anyones guess but it was regoed in nsw with a 10 digit vin. it also had electronic adjustable suspension in it but appears that it has been removed im looking forward to the morning as i will have a better idea of where to go as im going to jack it up and see what i have to work with. as for the hatch the guy i purchased it off is going to chase it up as well as the dash cluster for me so hopefully he finds it. Quote
zzzzed Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Yeh my dads z31 2+2 had electronic suspension. It's not un common Quote
260DET Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I collected some parts for a project VG33ET engine including ported heads with oversize Ferrea valves. They are a good motor, very light for an iron block. Expect about 350WHP max, they do not breathe that well due mainly to the restrictive lower plenum, pity. PS Don't believe the American big hp claims for these engines, they are Yank pony power numbers. Quote
pauly_adams Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 yeh i have seen this done but no one has decent dyno sheets to prove the power, if i was chasing power i would be putting the 400rwkw vg30dett engine i have in it but i dont need masive power its just not practicle for a street car. Quote
Rat1314 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 The VG30 can make more then 350whp. Here is a list of cars with dyno charts and info on each car http://www.vg30et.com/members.html Quote
260DET Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 The VG30 can make more then 350whp. Here is a list of cars with dyno charts and info on each car http://www.vg30et.com/members.html I'm not going to get involved in this argument, again A genuine non American 350whp at 15psi boost with a decent power spread is about as good as it gets. Turn the boost up more and the slight power gains are not worth it for the extra heat involved, which just shows how poorly they breathe. My experience. Quote
