Has anyone use any tyre additive to soften old race tyres. Such as Octopus grip, and did it work? Thanks.

Performance or drag race type shops sell a couple different ones.

One stinks like Deep Heat, smell stays around long time, i think it is called "Grip" paint it on couple days before, again day before, wrap on glad wrap.

Other one called "bite" no smell, paint on day before, then on the day, no smell.

Comes in 2 litre bottles, lasts long time, use an old ceramic mug, pour bit in, an old paint brush, slap it on.

Yes they work, but it "cooks" the compounds a bit, next time you go to use tyres, have to use it again, or they go a bit concretey.

I used the Bite,  stuff on old Avon slicks, yes works well

Let us know how you go Gordo.

Might need to do it too. But don't have time this week. Kids party at my house on Saturday and guess where it is? Yup, my garage  >:(

Z's out under the carport and I'm busy painting cardboard cut outs of clouds, mushrooms, trees and butterflies.......

Yes it does work, breaths a bit of life back into the old tires, the first time I used it at PI was griping up really good, at least  one or one and a half seconds faster than with out the treatment . About $50 per lt bottle you can get a few more sprints out of the old tires. I find I can do 3 treatments per bottle. Got it on eBay .

Has anyone watched this video where the mighty 240Z slays a 996 GT3, R35 GTR and keeps with a 300awkw GTR down the main straight of PI???

Go Gordo!!

You can see in the video how much quicker Gordo is through the sweeper coming onto the straight which makes all the difference.  Nice driving!

As for the tyre treatment.  We used it all the time on the kart tyres until they banned it.  Works a treat!  And it smells like deep heat so you could probably even use it to soothe those aching muscles after race day  ;)

I've contacted Brown Davis.

And the fact they are listed as a distributor of the Octopus Grip is news to them!

I just bought some from eBay. Apparently I'll be doing 1:52's @ the Island now. Lol

Are they any downsides to using this, would it make the tyres greasy in the wet?

Check list for the nationals.

1)Car finished  ::)

2)New tyres

3)Octopus grip

4)1.51's???? Lmao

The only downsides we found with it were your tyres will wear quicker and if you use it and then don't use the tyres again for a long time it can deteriorate the rubber.  It doesn't leave any greasy film and softens the rubber so you'll be quicker in the wet too.

I wouldn't use it on new tyres, just buy a softer compound.  But it's great for getting the last bit out of old tyres.
