260z blues Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Am currently rebuilding a 73 240z and was wondering has anyone compiled a list of all the parts that are interchangeable between the 240 and 260 even the 2+2 for those new to the scene. Also is there a list available for what was changed mechanically and cosmetically for each years production. Am trying to get some much needed knowledge of these cars so any help would be great. Thanks. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 We have touched on this subject before. Everything on the front as in gaurds, bonnet, headlights, bumber and such plus the windscreen. The hatch is the same on the 240Z 260Z. 260Z Dash and console fit the 2+2 . . . . Everything else forgadrboutit. Quote
boyblunda Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 The early 260Z RS30 shared more parts with the 1973 240Z than the later models but there were differences in the bodies even within the RS30 designated shells, as there were between the early and later model 2+2 GRS30 models. There are additional differences between the 260Z and the 240Z other than in the body panels and glass eg in the Macpherson struts and some interior components. Even the parts manuals are not always correct in defining the cut off dates for the changes in some parts (eg seat brackets) but it is the parts manuals (ebay?) and the Microfiche CD's (from ClassicZ) that probably provide the best references for this information as well as having excellent diagrams showing the breakdown/assembly of component areas. 260z blues Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Are there any differences between panels within the 240 range. ? I'm in need of a new front gaurd and want to make sure I get it right. I am constantly seeing people with old ta22 celicas with the wrong front guards as they changed them Mid model within the ta22 range. Quote
nizm0zed Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I am 90% sure the front panels are the same between all the S30 chassis, HOWEVER (and someone will confirm/correct) there may be a difference with the side indicator? Early ones without it, later model with it? Other than that, they are 100% bolt on fitment between all S30 chassis. edit: there must be a lot of TA22's around your neck of the woods? I'll be lucky to see one every 4-5 months (and its allways the same one), unless at a car show. Yet another fine example of a highly collectible and becoming very uncommon car.... Quote
260z blues Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 What do you mean not many celicas around. I have 3 in my backyard. Lol Quote
mikmarda Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 What about rear suspension and drive shafts, bolt in from/to 2+2? Anyone know quickly or will it be back to the books? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 27, 2012 Moderators Posted February 27, 2012 Tail shafts are different from 2 seater to +2's, With the rear suspensions, I've heard lots of different stories.. some say the casting on the +2 hubs are wider, but the arms are the same. Diffs are interchangable not sure about the half shafts... Quote
Lynton Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Work on the theory that the S30's are the same up to the windscreen, then the 2+2 is (1' foot or 610 longer) than the coupe. So logic prevails on most mechanicals are similar but take into account the extra length. Body panels from the windscreen on are very different. Lynton Quote
mikmarda Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Well I have a full rear set up (half shafts, diff, arms, callipers, rotor, dampers, springs) from a 240 that I will soon test for a fit. Rookie mistake if it doesn't Quote
