zr240 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Thought Id start a new project thread for my race car build! My new shop has some room out the back so I thought id take it in and start a in shop build I haven't got any pics yet. History of car: I purchased the car as a CAMS logbooked shell about 2yr ago. The previous owner purchased it from interstate and wanted to make it back into a road car but when he stripped and sandblasted the shell he decided it was a bit to rough for a road car and parted it out (sold it). Previous to that it was owned by a guy called Larry Greenhalgn (if anyone else knows this car or has picks please post here and let me know as I would love to know more history) I have chased up a bit of history. It was raced in the state series in marque sports from 95-99 mainly at eastern creek, Ran a 2.8L with triples. My Plan: The shell needs a lot of work (welding etc) So will put it on the rotisserie and fix it up. Need to go bolt on flair as the rear guards have been cut. (and also I am fitting the 16x10 wheels from my old race car) Think I will also go the G-nose like my old race car as well I still have my old 2.9L triple 4 weber race motor which is a perfect engine for this car. Still debating which what to go with suspension either koni/kyb inserts with weld on kit from Otomoto or the full adjustable coil over setup Otomoto does? Anyway that's were Im at at the moment, should have the area ready in a week or two to move the car in and start working Ash Also still think about brakes? got some series 6 RX& mazda calipers sitting in the shed that I could fit with some S15 front rotors and skyline rear rotors? This is my old race car, the new car will have these wheels and a similar body kit. Quote
peter mc Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 very cool good to see ,i loved the old red one look forwad to the build Quote
luvemfast Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Project. At work. What could go wrong Fan of those rims too Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 31, 2011 Moderators Posted July 31, 2011 Wish I could do that while at work...just too busy twiddling my thumbs.. Good to hear Ash, I'll keep tabs on the project just in case you have to disrupt the work on the zed with your shop! No excuses for not having any parts! Quote
zed74 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Hi Knew the car when it was built many years ago Larry put a stroker 3.1 litre motor c/w 48mm triple webers - when he raced in marque sports (his son Lex also competed) Was bought a couple of years back by one of the Qld Z car members to get the stroker motor - then on sold remainder to Victoria. I will check with our club committee as I think Larry actually provided video's of this car racing - so we could have some worthwhile footage for you! Quote
zr240 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 Dont think i will have time to do it during work More like after hours but yes nothing like have an auto parts shop joint to the shed! Ash Quote
zr240 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Also forgot to mention the car is not at the shop yet as I am just getting the workshop area ready (sorry to Ben and simon who came to have a look). It will be at the shop in a few weeks ash Quote

Brabham Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 What happened to your red g-nose racecar? Is it still around? Cheers. Quote
zr240 Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 T boned by a porsche at sandown 6 years ago There are some pics in my gallery. Ash Quote
zr240 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Did a bit of work on the car tonight. Fitted the wide wheels and checked that the new flares cover and they do had a bit of trouble with the rears as they don't seem to fit the car very well but should be able to get them sorted. Will post a few pics tomorrow Ash Quote
zr240 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Wheels are 16 x 10 but cannot remeber the offset Gnose that I borrowed also does not fit very well:( Am going to talk to Topstage as I think they can make me a nice one that fits well heres a quick shot Ash Quote
Agno Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Saxon they look to be Performance Challengers which have an off the shelf offset of 16x10 -29 Quote
saxon Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Oh yeah, I was thinking of getting those a while back. They look pretty cool, and should fit on stock suspension and under normal flares with a bit of a tyre stretch. Quote
260DET Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Yeh those wheels are a decent old school alternative to the oh so common Watanabe knock offs. Quote
PZG302 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I had the challengers as wets for the Zed and also have a set for the Chugger. If you want real old school race wheels try to find a set of rebel wheels made in Unenderra Wollongong. They are being made, but at $700 a throw a bit exxy for mine. Plenty of Mazda SS, formula fords and HQ's used them back in the day, well when I was racing in NSW anyway..... Quote
zr240 Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 Latest pic of the car fitted topstage gnose and checked that flairs cover wheels. All ok so now ready to start the shell repairs. Ash Quote
