Jk_zeder Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 So had the sparky around all day today.. check the link out below Pretty happy and a big milestone for us.. getting close to getting back out on the track now Quote
Riceburner Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hehehe, very pumped! It's great to hear monster come to life especially after all the hard work you've put in. Quote
luvemfast Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Sounds AWESOME! I actually thought there were people clapping for a split second. Then realized it was the exhaust popping Very tough looking and sounding rig. You must be stoked as. Quote
Jk_zeder Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Hey guys, So it's been a while but we finally got the car close enough to finished to take it for a few spins around the block. Still a few teething problems, suspension still isn't set up correctly, tune isnt done properly yet and the clutch is slipping which I think has something to do with the dodgy slave set up You can see a couple vids below of it if you like. It was just around our block, nothing special.. but just had to drive it Also for shits and giggles I had another team mate brings his 370Z daily around so we could get a few pics of what nearly 40years difference is.. see below. Our first official track day should be on the 18th of February at Lakeside, funds providing. So stay tuned! -James Quote
Jk_zeder Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Is that the X-Dusty machine ? Sure is, well the shell anyway.. heh Quote
be-zed Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I have seen your family day outs . Dusty is going to want to build something to match it or better .You do know that, don't you . Dam, that puts me down an other rung on the ladder of fast Z's in the Club . I need to start work on my turbo L30 engine. Richard and I were thinking of a day at Lakeside soon. Quote
Jk_zeder Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 hehe, we'll have to see how it performs on the 18th, maybe you and Richard could come? Think Dusty was going to attempt at making it in the 260 as well. Quote
260DET Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Mine is ready for a Lakeside practice so I was thinking Thu 9 Feb. Black bi*ch looks good, that wing should work. Quote
Jk_zeder Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Hey guys, Been ages since I have posted anything, basically had to buy my partner out of the car so it's been mostly sitting around. Went out a couple times but I am waiting on my cage guy to be ready for the car to come in. Since the last post I had to do quite a few things. Had to have the car wiring fixed up, the tuner wasnt to impressed with my backyard guy haha. The Car made 170rwhp and 280ft-lbs of torque Snapped a few weld on the exhaust at Lakeside so had to get that re welded, no major. Also while at Lakeside we found a fuel surge problem, new 044 pump and 2L pot fixed all that. I also managed to kill the gearbox a few weeks ago at the Norwell Performance Driving Centre, it was a Hardtuned day. A few pics below. The car will be getting an RB20DET Gearbox setup which I need to start organising this week. Plan is to run a Navara Input Shaft 1.409 ratio I believe and also try to get my hands on a 5th gear cog from a vl-5 speed box in attempts to get the ratios as close as I can without paying the big dollars for the gear sets. This will mean a new tail shaft but that's easy. That's it for now, will keep the thread up to date with the coming upgrades Quote
Jk_zeder Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 So I pulled the gearbox out, whilst doing so I noticed bits of what turned out to be 'clutch' falling out.. The result of skid pan madness is below (clutch did 3 track days) Safe to say, I need to order a new clutch Quote
dat2kman Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 And pull off the flywheel and get it faced, properly! See Jim Berry oorparoo/Greenslopes whatever somewhere. High clamping, with out the pedal effort, by re-doing the cover pivots. There are others about, that are cheaper, ,,,,, but,,,, they will look like this. Hmm, destroying boxes, ripping apart clutches, whats next, diff, driveshafts! Quote
luvemfast Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 You always beef up one area..... only to destroy the next weakest link! Quote
Jk_zeder Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Flywheels off, its as smooth as a babys bottom so definitively off to get machined. That was an Exedy HD Button clutch but I have heard good things about JB so I shall have a look. Yeah, drivelines only as strong as your weakest part! Noticed the uni's in the halfshafts have gone as well. Question is do I bite the bullet and grab the kit from wolfcreekracing or just get em rebuilt and take some spares to the track. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Wolfcreek beware! There's some dodgey goings on with their CV's. get some heavy duty uni's from hardy spicer The Splines on the CV's are hit with a punch to deform them and make things feel tighter than what they are. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 What is actually needed to fit CV's to a Z? Bolt on. Is it just stub axles? If you give me all the details, I can run it by Hollinger. They have all the equipment to do them. Be interesting to see the pricing. Quote

Well that answers that question, I shall hold off. Any other info on them as a mate of mine grabbed them for his Targa build. I'll look into Hardy for sure, do they do a complete shaft+uni or just the uni's? What is actually needed to fit CV's to a Z? Bolt on. Is it just stub axles? If you give me all the details, I can run it by Hollinger. They have all the equipment to do them. Be interesting to see the pricing. Unsure, maybe I will take a proper look at the kit next time I'm at his place. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I've only heard of hardy spicer uni joints, not sure if they do a complete shaft. Scando runs them on his turbo track car. Check out this link, has detailed picks of the wolfcreek CV's. Looks dodgey! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,7883.0.html Quote
dat2kman Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 It has been shown a few times now, but the units out of Wolf are not as good as Stew Wilkins setup. Yes, Stew is a bit pricey, but once you factor in shipping costs and headaches, its not that much. They have been tried, and well proven, on the Collinge Safari rally cars. I dont get why so many feel and think they "need" the cv set up, unless you are running very wide sticky rubber, and are a dickhead on gearchanges and take offs, the stock setup in the Z is pretty good, provided the unis are not flogged out! Too much "me too" stuff....KISS principle. Quote
Jk_zeder Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 haha yeah I hear you, for me it's one of those if I break it I take it up a level and I am slightly brickheaded Sent Hardy Spicer an email, pretty sure I will just grab what they have to offer. Should be plenty for the little 28 Also waiting to hear back about a Berry clutch Quote
