chev z Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Due to guard size and engine HP I need to increase my rim width to a min of 12 inches on the rear and perhaps 10.5 / 11 in. on the fronts. The problem of availability could mean that the best option is to send the rims somewhere to be professionally widened. I am currently using the 17x9.5 rota rims allround. Any ideas or names of rim wideners and cost is appreciated Quote
tir33d Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Personally I don't like the idea of cutting and re welding the cast alloy wheels. You would be better off to get a set made to your requirements. Think about what you want, if you go an extra 2.5 inches you really probably only want the extra width on the face side, You are going to be cutting through your dish and then expect a good finish after the cut, add, weld process. Once upon a time everyone would say simmons but they are gooonnnne now. Apparently someone in China (or something) is retooling for these wheels but that remains to be seen. I think ROH still do custom wheels, widths and offsets if your looking for someone from Aust. Phil Quote
C.A.R. Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 17" Sport Sedan cast Alum rims can be ordered in offset, width & stud pattern you like. PM 'Peter MC26' for more info. Steve Quote
luvemfast Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Talking with another member here who has some of these, with the exchange rate works to be more affordable http://www.jongbloedracing.com/applications.htm Or contact BenZed, maybe some Watanabe's? Quote
luvemfast Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 OK Steve sent me some pics of his car which explains the need for W I D E wheels Then he called last night as he just needed to talk about it as he's soooo excited Same kit as the Paul Newman racer back in the day. As you would be. This thing is going to be a rocket! Quote

GV260 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Very faaaattttttt! Given the early hatch, what build number is it? Quote
620Z Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 So when can we see that on the track? That just ain't your average flare kit there. Not sure ROH in SA go that wide. But I thnk the key to grip is the tyre more so than the rim size. Although I am thinking something for the road when I guess you will be wanting slicks. Quote
aidannn Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 i found these in my daily searches. should be more than adequate. http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php/69634-FS-Veil-Side-Andrews-PHAT-OFFSET-AND-DISH!-(Melbourne) Quote
chev z Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Thanks for putting the pics up Simon. As you know , when it comes to computers, I make a ok farmer. If everything goes according to plan she will debut at the Z nationals. I only have 10 more necessary jobs to be completed and then will be able to test drive. That works out at only one job per day, better double the work up so I can atleast get one test run in before heading to Goulburn. As for tyre size I am limited to 275x40x17 on the ROTA 9.5 inch rims until I can afford to get custom ones built, probably 12 inch.In the USA they ran with upto 14 inch rims So to fillout the guards I'm using 25mm spacers on the front with 245x40x17 on 9.5 inch rims and am having 45mm spacers built [hopefully] as I write for the rear. Compliance date is 1/69 number 406 Bert or Chris or Red[?] , who bonded the guards on , has a rusty hulk with number 98 on the firewall...mmmmm...interesting Quote
benny Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 just found thse on ebay- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Race-Star-wheels-92-15x12-64-offset-/320683928475?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aaa406b9b#ht_525wt_907 they are 5 stud but no big deal... they have multiple offsets too!! Quote
nizm0zed Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I hope your going to widen the front spoiler to match the flares... FWIW Tempe Tyres in Sydney bought up the Simmons tooling, but knowing them (and the ridiculous 'sex spec' in Sydney) they wont bother reproducing much of it at all. You would be best off with 3 piece wheels to get the width and offset you want. Its worth an email to ROH to see if they have the right size bands to make it, they have some nice wheels. Failing that, you can get custom bands spun up, but expect around $3-400 each... You may also be able to use inner bands on your outers to get the dish you want, just have to drill them for the valve stem to go through. I was messing around with my Simmons, and ended up building it with two inners for $hits and giggles, gives a 10" wide rim with 0 offset and mad dish!!! Might need a damn good clean though... (bad phone photo before i used both inners on the centre, this one was just swapping the centre around) Quote
chev z Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 The IMSA package does include a g nose front with a matching lower spoiler that incorporates the front guards, my problem was the cost, so decided on a couple of bites instead of biting off more than my wife would let me[lol] After seeing the quality and finish of the fibreglass guards I am now contemplating getting the lower spoiler and then perhaps the g nose. The main trouble for me is that I really like the toughness of the 240 front as is, which probably some will find amusing as I have changed the original shape in other areas. Time will tell , especially if I get more serious about cutting my track times At this stage I am still really stoked with the look of the new guards Try this site www.zccjdm.com for gnose etc and then punch into google .... 'zlalomz forsalevendors' ... and check out the race dattos with incredible flaring and tyre width.... oops drouling again Quote
