Hi everybody,

I have recently joined the group and today seems like a good day to introduce myself.

I have a September 1973 complianced 240Z which I have owned since 1984.

I bought the car from the original owner when it had 19,514 miles on the clock.

The car was last registered in 1995 and I have recently taken it out of long term storage.

My objective is to get it back on the road soon.

The obstacles are -

- Brakes need complete overhaul

- Engine has not been started since about 2003!

- There a few small rust (and therefore paint) issues

- Everything needs to be checked, cleaned, dismantled etc.

I would be particularly interested in hearing from any Z-heads in or near Wollongong.

I look forward to making some friends here and then driving them crazy with questions.

Best Regards and merry Xmas

- Ian

P.S. I have already sent a pm to aussie240z who seems to;

- live in my suburb

- own a blue 240Z with triple Webers

- Share my first name!!

Great looking 240z, a real time capsule. I'm sure it won't take much work to get her back on the road. That's 1 of the best colours for a early 240z and she looks very original kudos to you. But I have to ask, why hasn't she seen the light of day in so long?

Welcome to AusZcar, Ian  :)

Nice 240z you have there, great colour! It doesnt look too bad from the pics!

Be sure to start a build thread so we can watch the progress of your 240z, hope you can get it on the road soon!

Hi Gav, Jane and Loui,

Thank you for your replies.

In answer to Gav's question - "...why hasn't she seen the light of day in so long?"

- I took the car off the road to save money at the time and got distracted with other pursuits. I have now fallen in love with the car all over again and look forward to being able to drive it.

Gav also said - "That's 1 of the best colours for a early 240z and she looks very original"

- I have to agree about the colour which was the reason I HAD to buy it all those years ago (I am biased of course) but from what I have found its actually a late 240Z (and 260Z) colour and my car (HS30-103724) is one of the last to be sold in Australia (it should pop up on the wazregister soon). The car is fairly original, with the exceptions of;

Kidney/jelly bean alloy wheels that were fitted to the car when it sat in Capitol Motors showroom (It was also fitted with BRE style front and rear spoilers)

A stroked L24 (L26 crank) with triple Weber 40 DCOE's and extractors

280ZX 5 speed gearbox (was Jatco auto from factory)

Original 3.54 diff centre replaced with 3.9 ratio unit

Koni strut inserts and K-Mac front and rear sway bars.

1980's Proton radio/cassette.

I have the original motor (needs rebuild), auto box, diff centre, spoilers and radio (butchered the faceplate in about 1985 to suit the whizz-bang cassette deck - can I say damn here?)

My intention is to keep the car pretty much as it is but to "balance out" the existing modifications with some progressive rate springs (I wouldn't mind if she sat a bit closer to the ground), a Toyota 4 spot upgrade up front, a "front valance with lip" (like the one MSA sells) and maybe some strut braces.

I will probably have the holes in the rear hatch welded up because I think the rear spoiler really does "spoil" the lines of the car.

I have to say how happy I am that since I took the car off the road, the internet has evolved and makes it so much easier to find advice, parts, ideas etc.! There are so many parts available its amazing.

Jane said "Be sure to start a build thread so we can watch the progress of your 240z"

- I will do that - this gallery will bring you up to date for now;

This gallery has some more/larger pics of the car fresh off the tilt tray truck which brought it down from Sydney;

It might be a while before I drive the Z to Sydney Loui - but I will keep your invitation in mind - thank you.

welcome Ian..

yep love that colour  8)

take no note of the build no, mines 1 month "newer" than yours and my no is 2904  :P

welcome Ian,

my Z is very similiar specced.

Same build month, same wheels spoilers etc.

It was the same color but prior to my purchase someone sprayed it white.

I need to check the build number to see how close it is.

Huh? The compliance plate date on my car is 9/73.

According to the wazregister - your car is dated 7/73, which would be in line with your lower chassis number.

Hi Bruce - I couldn't find any pics of your car - apart from your avatar. Am I missing something? If not - how about posting some? And when you check your build number, why not list it on the wazregister?

Hi again Chris,

I have seen mention of Nick (Nixcars) in a few posts so far. I have not made contact with him as yet however.

When you say he does "rebuilds" on Z's, do you mean engine rebuilds etc., full restorations, or all of the above?

I would not let Nick near my pushbike, let alone a Zed

Oops - sorry everybody - I just put my glasses on and checked under the bonnet again - my car is HS30-103724 - not 103794.
