will happen to all alloy mags if you hit the gutter hard enogh, or regularly bump the kerb whilst parking,

always the fact, they are cast.....then machined........

but yes, CNC'd rims are a lil crap (Cheaper 'N 'China) lol

I know you get what you pay for but I also believe there is a bit more to it than these rims just breaking. Cheap rims appeal to cheap skates which is usually also the kids who think they are gods gift to drifting, and driving altogether for that matter. These kids are the ones driving into big pot holes and sliding into gutters then blaming the wheels. I've seen rims worth a few thousand get damaged under the same circumstances. I think the people who can afford the real brands of rims are also better drivers and think twice before smashing them into traffic islands or scraping them on gutters. And while I'm having a rant, i hate when people are selling rims and they say 'just the normal gutter rash'. Gutter rash isn't normal. That means you have run into a gutter or rubbed up against it due to poor car control.  It's like selling an engine and saying its got the normal internal damage from running with no oil.

So Ben, do I get a discount on your grids for sticking up for them??

Yeah, would agree with you RB30x. It looks like a lot of the pics are very serious damage probably from high speed accidents, and I would imagine if you hit a gutter sideways at 80kph with Watanabe's the same sort of damage would result. I'd like to see the car damage to go with these pics, I'm guessing it would be very messy...

I did a full season of racing on Rota RB's last year and happily bounced the car off plenty of ripple strips with no signs of any damage.  So I think they pass the test

I'm sure there are people as well that fit wheels designed to fit for one make of car onto something completely different and don't check to closely for offset / clearance of brakes etc or if it does rub, remove some material from the wheel rather than from the caliper or fouling part making the wheel lose strength then fail. We have to know the full story and all the details..

I'm sure I've seen that image used when discussing inadequate brake calliper clearance.  Supposedly the calliper cleared by a whisker, when cold and when cruising, but not under high speed braking and cornering.  IIRC no particular critiscim was directed at the wheel, just the owner

There is a very extensive thread on this rim, it can be found with google. What you don't see is how badly cut up the inside of the other front rim is due to the caliper eating out the rim.

 

The same probably applies to all of these failed rims, improper use and fitment. Rota actually guarantee their rims (12 or 24 months, can't remember) INCLUDING RACING USE!!!

 

Find me another manufacturer that will back their rims on a race car for anywhere near the same money. /hugs Rota RB's

i could show you a few pics of $1000 rims that have pooped themselves in a similar way, context its all about the way they have been hit, having said that some rims are cheap for a reason.
