bluerat Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Howdy guys, I just got the latest Unique Cars mag with big Lenny's Mustang on the cover, and spotted a rough looking 240Z shell on page 246, covered in junk and looks to be sitting out the back of a shed amongst some other junk. It's claim to fame is that it is number 325 and the owner want's $10,000. If Lurch paid less than $100,000 for his he got a bargan! LOL Now I'm not being critical here, good luck to them, If it sells it makes all our cars more valuable, but do you think ten gee's is a bit optomistic? Quote
Quandary Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 The guy is a member here. He has the parts to restore a number of them going by what people have said. Anyways, I think if people are after a low number Z they expect to throw the wallet in. Quote
nizm0zed Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 If your a purist, your going to spend a small fortune on the restoration. $10k is a small ask for a good low number start. If your not a purist, does it really matter what the number is? Choose the shape (and tail lights/dash) that you like and go from there. Build it how YOU want and ignore everyone elses comments. pantah Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Just out of interest, what is the lowest number 240,still in existence, known to members of this forum ? Does Mr Lurch have the lowest numbered known 240 ? Quote
Quandary Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 If the matching number block isn't available (even at an extra cost) then I think 10k is asking a lot. Quote

Does Mr Lurch have the lowest numbered known 240 ? No Pete has my old 240z in NSW HS30-00016 (he imported from NZ not long after he got it from me when he was living here in Auckland, it is currently getting rebuilt - long term project), and I believe it has been posted that HS30-00004 is in Australia somewhere if I recall. S30-00002 was found in a scrap yard in Japan and not sure if it is going to be restored or not. Also Pete at one point had or knew of HS30-00013 in Australia I believe that car shell required lots of work anyway it is now in the UK getting re-birthed as a 240z rally car. HS30-0002? (well not actual car as it was re-shelled after a rollover but its ID and some of the work rally parts) was on ebay.co.uk a number of years back and the rumour was it was sold to a guy here in NZ. bluerat Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Some good reply's there. In the picture it seems to be missing a lot of equipment, eg grill, headlight's etc, but they may have been taken off to do the bodywork etc. There is no mention of parts in the add, and if I was chasing top dollar for a shell I would at least drag it to a better location for a pic and give it a clean up. Hopefully a 'Purist' will pay top dollar and do a full restro. When does a chassis number stop being a low number? 300, 500 or 1000? when do you stop calling your Zed a 1969? no-5, 50, 500? this one is advertised as a '69. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 6, 2010 Moderators Posted June 6, 2010 Its come up again..the big debate about early HS30 chassis numbers! Rob at Z Factory has told me chassis numbers after about 480 were manufactured after 1970 to 71. He has some paperwork which proves it but I have yet to see it in person; I've been asking quite regularly to read it. Mine is number HS30-000121 but I'm in no hurry to bring it back to stock...yet. NZeder Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 There is another thread on this site with good info on early cars - search and you should find it. Quote
