Timwell Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Hey dudes, Trying to sell my Z on this site. Also selling it on Car sales. Im pretty sure there is a warning on CARSALES.COM about the following email/type of scam. Pretty easy to spot. Just look at the dodgy grammer. Anyway keep an eye out and be very wary. regards, "Tim Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buying it now for birthday gift for my Great Mother and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want the car to be a surprise for my Mother so i wont let her know anything about the car until it gets delivered to her, i am sure she will be more than happy with the car. I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for the car and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments... Thanks." Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted April 27, 2010 Administrators Posted April 27, 2010 Did you get the message through here or carsales.com.au? If you were contacted by someone through here please let me know. Quote
V8Datto Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 What what I understand, when the scammers pay the money into your account they pay too much and then send through a message saying "sorry sent the wrong amount, will get a refund for the extra" They then do a refund for the entire amount, From your point of view (and what pay-pal says)you have your money, and there is a part refund. All of a sudden they have your car and their money as well. Quote
Timwell Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 No not through this site. Well maybe I should let them do it then before they get the refund shut down the account!!! Quote
V8Datto Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I think when they summit a refund, it hold's the transaction up. Either way it works for them and not the seller I've seen it on a few other forums now, giving pay-pal a bad name. Quote
Zbitz Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 It happened to me last month, They send a paypal paid email saying it is deposited the Car cost with paypal including $3500 for shipping and when ask you to pay their shippers paypal account with thw $3500 before paypal will release the full amount to you. Of course you will never get it. And you get scammed out of the $3500 you paid. The main one running is saying they are from China. I get a few emails a month like it, mainly when I put ads on Gumtree. Quote
MMANGO Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 zbitz is right, had it happen to me when i was selling a gearbox, at the time i was young, but i still smelt a rat, i told the website, who didnt do anything, i told the autorities, who said it was the websites problem, so i just gave up and kept my gearbox Quote
