I thought i should take the time to actually start recording my cars progress, mainly for my benefit but also for anyone interested.

Have had ownership for about 12 months now, and bought it as my first proper car (please no lectures about only be 18 and etc).

Anyway bought the car as seen below:

1975 260z 2+2

L28 swap by some previous owner,

superlites 16x8,

little rust and a few minor dents.

From there i bought new rubber seals, and speedhut guagefaces.

Then thought i would fix the body, so put it in to a local bloke called Ben stone, we decided to go back to bare metal due to the car having crows feet all over the roof and my intentions to change the colour.

He soda Blasted the car, which i know some people are against due to the acid level of the soda but i believe it should work out fine, and if not will find out in a few years.

I dont have photos of the car as bare metal yet but here are some in primer and with the final Mazda Aurora blue. still needs buffering.

still have the engine bay to paint but after that i need to reregister the car, and therefor pass it over the pits.

so my next plans are:

upgrade the headlights...any ideas?

fix window wipers and the water squirter things, may need new wiper motor.

install  hazard lights somehow

is there anything else inspectors usually pick up as a fault?

also have a new dash that i bought of rev and restored at the dashboard doctors but will wait until i redo the interior before installing that

Looking very good  love the colour. should suit it very nice.

as for headlights im asuming the glass part. i used H4 diamond 7" that i bought of ebay. it made the car look bit cleaner.

problem  is i wouldnt do that till after the pits. Unless u get ADR stamped and approved version or E1 (which im yet to see).

ive seen on yahoo auctions and us ebay ones with parabolic lense and halo park light glow like bmw. depends how much u want to spend.

if u got rear demister that should be working and definetly front demister working. other than that all the norm suspension, oil leaks etc...)

hope it helps

keep up with good work and post some pics of the car in the sun. it will bring the colour out even more. BTW from what car is the code from?

its mazda aurora blue, code is 34J. a friend has a mazda 6 in the colour and its the best blue i have seen, but im not applying clear coats all over mine tho, we mixed a bit of clear in with the final coats instead.

will have to get demisters working then and probably wait for the headlights, even tho they look a pretty easy swap.

next on things to buy list is airdam and fibreglass bumbers, might aswell finish all the body before starting on other aspects.

Great choice of colour..with the wheels it should go together.

With the hazards, it should already be there but you may be just missing the switch. Under the dash on the wiring loom, you should be able to see about 5 green wires together ending in a white (yellow colour after some 30 odd years of ageing) with a green wire loop. Disconnect that and plug in a original hazard switch and it should all work.

Hey man great looking car. Being 18 is the best  :)

I have a 2+2 in very similar condition as when you first got it hopefully have it rego'd too soon. But good luck with your build and keep the updates going. Im very interested.

thanks for the comments.

i havnt got the car out in the sunlight and the photos are in a dusty shed but i think its turned out well, i got ben to paint it also as i didnt want the hassle of moving it halfway through the process.

Only problem i have with the paint work is that on the bonnet there are tiny sort of indents? in the paint, hardly noticable unless your up close but is that an issue?

and not set on a price yet as the engine bay isnt complete but should all end up between 3-4 grand plus paint

Finally got around to buying a new battery the other day, so managed to get the car into the sun for the first time since painting.

displayimage.php?pos=-3215

Could only load up this crappy photo due to file size limits. But the paint is okay..... aslong as you dont get to close  :-\

However after all that im considering selling, so if anyone in tassie is interested?

otherwise the next project is to install the new dashboard sitting in the shed.

Taz I have left you a few messages on your mobile, my number is

My little bro needs a first car, he said to me he wanted a Ford Falcon, but I think this will be more suitable as I have all the spare parts he will ever need.

I have talked him around to the Zed Way!

What is the go with the paint job?
