Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 2, 2010 Moderators Posted March 2, 2010 Just got the zed back today with the twin system installed that I've been trying to make for a while. Last one I did rattled windows kilometers away.. This one to me sounds real nice. Posted a video on youtube so if anyone was thinking about one, and wondered what it would sound like..here ya go. The trick is to have the biggest resonator you can fit where the extractors end. Around halfway where the gearbox is. Then a couple of hotdogs just where the diff is then out to the back. The pipes are 2" and separate from the secondaries all the way. Let me know what you think.... Quote
zedevan Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 that would turn some heads! are there advantages to a twin system? or just the sound? (riceer? ) i love the look of the factory twin verticle pipes... Quote
Riceburner Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Was a very tidy install, they do top work. Gotta love that growl Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 2, 2010 Author Moderators Posted March 2, 2010 According to a book I've read, it is an advantage to have a seperate system for the front three and back three cylinders. You can make the tips go around to the stock location, but i like the pipes under the tank. I'm hoping it doesn't have that Ricer sound! Quote
FLEXZED Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 very nice dimitri love the sounds and should increase your performance Loui Quote
stevo_gj Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Awesommee. Can you show us what it looks like in the engine bay? Were the headers custom too? How low is it compared to the old exhaust IE will it scrape on speedbumps and how lastly how much did it cost you? Definitely considering this setup for the future. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 3, 2010 Author Moderators Posted March 3, 2010 My headers secondaries end with 2 pipes at a flange. The rest of the system from that flange stays double all the way to the back. The center muffler I'm using is a strange one. Its a stainless straight through 2 in, 2 out 2" then 2 hot dogs at the diff then straight out the rear. There's plenty of ground clearance, as my zed isn't too low. It cost $250, but i supplied the mufflers and flange. I'll post up pics tonight... Quote
ScottyB Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 any chance of seeing those pics? sounds great. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 24, 2010 Author Moderators Posted April 24, 2010 Oops! A month late for the pics.. I'll take some tomorrow morning with some light to help. Just been a tad busy... Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 26, 2010 Author Moderators Posted April 26, 2010 Heres the pic; beyond the centre resonator is a little hard to see but from the header secondaries, they just both go straight into the resonator then what you see in the pic. Quote
ChrisZ Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Dimitri, i'm not trying to jack your thread, but i just uploaded a vid of my dual exhaust after having them tips made. Chris Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 16, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 16, 2010 Chris, are the twins just at the tip or all the way through? If not you are cheating... Quote
ChrisZ Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Cheating my butt mate, no way, it's a dual 1.75 inch system, two small mufflers in the mittle and two hot dogs as you call them at the end. I made some tips of some 2.5 inch stainless, made some perforated pipe and put inside the tips. At idle and cruise the sound is moderate byt at WOT it get's LOUD, i wish i could find some small resonators to put in the back and then put the hot dogs in the middle, just to turn the sound down a bit, then it would be easier to here my triples growl Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 17, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 17, 2010 I typed that before I saw your build details on Classicz site.. It does sound a bit on the loud side but I'd be happy with it. Might be a bit loud for sprints we do here; we have a 75db limit at about 30 meters (I think) at 5000 rpm.. Quote
260Coupe Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Hey Dimitri I would have been interesting to Dyno your Zed before and after to see what difference the exhaust changes made. The factory rally cars had twin pipes as did the early BRE 240's so one could assume there is a performance gain ....but by how much is the question Alan Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 18, 2010 Author Moderators Posted May 18, 2010 Alan, I did dyno the zed when I had a single 2¼ system, when I had the Wolf setup. I haven't dynoed it now with the twins. I just have to go to Lilydale and dyno again on the same one to get an accurate reading. Quote
