Sooner or later someone will realise the Genie is out of the bottle on S130, although an itzee and bitzee very busy panel makeover compared to the S30, Nissan sorted everything else out to produce a superb user friendly cruiser.

However rust is their biggest problem but a great car if you can find a good one. Z31's another story, great car but expensive to maintain and labor intensive also, once any model of the Zeds reach $1500 - $2500 that is when they start to creep back up again ....start saving Lynton :P

I'd say that all Z's prior to the Z32 will increase in price in the years to come. They're well built cars, fun to drive and look great. Good "bang for your buck" cars. They're becoming hard to come by in good condition which should help the prices of the well maintained examples.

Z32's might drop in price over the next few years, but I imagine they'll become sort after in years to come.

I may be completely wrong though!  :D

all zeds have followed a similar trend. The S130 hit rock bottom about 5-10 years back and are now bouncing back. The Z31 has hit bottom now. I predict the Z31 will bounce back in about 5 years. Then it will be the Z32's turn.

Ahh but I beg to differ, there are a few Z31's around worth picking up!

I just bought a one owner '86 Z31 Turbo (and a rare manual at that ) with only 135000 km on the clock (with history) for $6k........never had a hit, no rust and totally unmolested. One of the few yet to catch fire and not hotted up by the "Welcome Overseas GuestS" (no offence intended)

The Z31 is certainly no "sports" car in the same league as a 240......but a great "fat mans" tourer all the same. Styling is very polorizing (yes you either like them or you hate them, I was never a big fan until I drove a few) as the ride is very boulevarde but with electric everything, snooze control, air, power steer and reasonable handling and performance (155kw for a 1400kg car).......$6k was great value.....me thinks anyway . If it appreciates in value as the 280's have done then all the better ;D.........if not then so be it ....a nice piece of 80's nostalga

Just like all cars, Z31s are ugly if neglected. The problem is there are not too many nice examples out there. If you are lucky enough to snag one go for it. Same with the S130. I was lucky with mine....although it needs some attention

Agree..........clapped out 280's look like dogs but well maintained clean examples look great. I was actually looking for a 280 but needed to spend $10+k to find something reasonable and $12K + for a good one so the Z31 was the next best choice and half the price.

Certainly a future "classic of the Genre"

My Daughter ended up with a 1981 280ZX as a first car and loves it, original a cheap buy, but when the engine died as they do after going around the clock a few times we had to fit a new engine and make the commitment to keep it on the road. This means we now have to get serious about fixing the rust (no more bodgey patch jobs). Luckily it is a labour of love.

I have an MGB, and with all the "Unique Car" magazines around I suppose it's my fault that she bought a Zed instead of a sensible car like a souless Hyundai.

It's good to hear that the prices are rising, but it was never bought as an investment.

It is a bit more difficult to get spare parts for as compared to the MG which has all parts available as original supply or re manufactured, deteroration of the plastic interiors is also a challenge.

The  280ZX when compared to the 240 & 260 Zeds is similar to the comparison of the rubber nosed MG to the chrome bumper models.

The changes in the later models to meet safety standards and increases in interior comfort being detrimental to the original sports car concept.

But over time I believe both the Rubber nose and the 280ZX will have their day.

it alway good to see the 280zx going up in value when i brought mine 3 years ago it worth nothing i have put thousands of dollers into it so i hope the value might reach it one day
