I have re enrolled for a second term at St George Tech, basically because of the amount of rust in my daughters 280ZX. I can highly recommend it (Cheaper than a panel beater and you learn a thing or two), unfortunately I have been told the course at St. George for this term is now full. First semester was doing some rust repairs , basically replacing previous owners bog with real steel. This semester I am going to do a cut and weld in a new roof section, thanks to the part supplied by "hunter Z" The one thing I have learnt is you only see about 10% of the rust on the surface.

A scrap metal merchant was picking up my old beer fridge, and when I backed the 280ZX out of the drive he offered to by it for someone who is shipping 280ZX (Complete cars) by the container load back to Kuwait apparently to a company called "Retro Sports" (internet search did not show anything). I was aware of ZED cars going back to Japan, and I assumed that was because they were finally being appreciated in their country of origin, something like our old Holdens are here. Anyone aware of this. Suppose it will ultimately push up the price for the cars but make it harder and more expensive to find spares. Anyway he took my old rusted bonnet which I though was beyond salvage.

Spamaster, The window of my 280ZX rattles something terrible when I close the door with window open. No problem when the window is up or when driving. Can you describe the window roller and where it fits, this may be the answer to my problem. Thanks, David.

My Daughter ended up with a 1981 280ZX as a first car and loves it, original a cheap buy, but when the engine died as they do after going around the clock a few times we had to fit a new engine and make the commitment to keep it on the road. This means we now have to get serious about fixing the rust (no more bodgey patch jobs). Luckily it is a labour of love. I have an MGB, and with all the "Unique Car" magazines around I suppose it's my fault that she bought a Zed instead of a sensible car like a souless Hyundai. It's good to hear that the prices are rising, but it was never bought as an investment. It is a bit more difficult to get spare parts for as compared to the MG which has all parts available as original supply or re manufactured, deteroration of the plastic interiors is also a challenge. The 280ZX when compared to the 240 & 260 Zeds is similar to the comparison of the rubber nosed MG to the chrome bumper models. The changes in the later models to meet safety standards and increases in interior comfort being detrimental to the original sports car concept. But over time I believe both the Rubber nose and the 280ZX will have their day.

I have just repaired a large hole with bog behind the rubber strip on my daughters 280ZX front guard. I secured the rubber strip back in place with no name double sided tape this lasted one week before letting go, luckily I found the rubber strip in the gutter outside our house. I am now paranoid about losing the rubber strip if I do not fit it properly. I am not so sure about my rust repair so I may have to remove the trip at a later date to repair the rust properly. What should I use ? Work mate has suggested builders glue, I was thinking silicon or should I buy good quality double sided tape.

OZ001 There is a glove box lid on e-bay item 370300829482. Expensive but if it is the right colour and no others available.

I am after a Bonnet for a 1982 Datsun 280ZX Series 2 (No rust). Can any body help. My local garage has advised that he will not pass my Daughters car for rego next time (Aug. 2010) unless I do something about the rust in her bonnet, for the last two years I have been filling it with bog. Will a series 1 bonnet fit a series 2 car ?

Hunterzed, Thank you for your reply and kind offer. I will watch this post for an update. The Zed failed to start this morning, it looks like I will be fitting a new fuel pump tomorrow

I am looking for 280zx Interior plastic suround for automatic gear lever, must be red.

I would be interested in the rear vision mirror, hand full of red plastic plugs that hold in the interior mouldings and the surround for the gear lever (if automatic), please advise on condition of these pieces and price. Thanks, David
