Stivva Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 G'day guys, I am chasing a manual 240z or 260z (2 seater) It must: Run well Have Minimal rust. Be stock or lightly modified. Be in any Colour. Sirpent Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Agreed, And if thats the effort you are prepared to put into a "Z" restore Im looking forward to seeing something spectacular down the track on this forum, really wish you well with your hunt. Cheers John P.S. Is Deke a contract painter or does he have his own premises? Quote
Stivva Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 Cheers guys, She is a wonderful car, but my heart lays with the early Z. I have models and Beer glasses with the Z on it (see ebay) Wangan games and movies. I also want to play with an NA carbie (new to me). Deke is a contract guy, but works in a shop full time so there is a place he can paint. Just mention my Calais if you call. Quote
Sirpent Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 May have a word to him.......... Cheers John Quote
Stivva Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 Don't have a budget, cars tend to blow out when you make budgets so whats the point. But was hoping to pick something up for around 6g or so??? Seems to be the basis for something that still has the floorpan in tact. Correct me if I am wrong though. Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Keep your ear to the ground, but you might be waiting a while for the right car to pop up. Quote
Stivva Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 Yeah, I know, I dont mind to wait, don't want to rush into a project like this and ruin my experience with my dream car. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 19, 2009 Administrators Posted November 19, 2009 Don't have a budget, cars tend to blow out when you make budgets so whats the point. That's a breathe of fresh air right there. While its good to have a budget, you should spend the right money for the right car in my opinion. Too many people buy rust buckets expecting to fix it up for nothing, but in reality they are 20k in and still not done, when they could have spent another 5-6k on top of their original price and bought something alot more decent with a lot less work needed. A warning though, finding a stock clean original Z with minimal rust is quite difficult. If you want to play with NA carbs especially Z ones, I suggest buying the www.ztherapy.com videos on tuning SU carbs. I just received my copy last night, haven't finished watching it yet, but already I've seen so many little things that make a huge difference to how they can perform. It does make you realise how antique they are though. Kind of like an old watch. I've personally seen how well SU's can perform on an NA stroker Z and I was surprised to say the least. Quote
Brabham Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 There was one on here in Perth for sale in need of a resto, check that out... Quote
Stivva Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 Never mind, I found it. Bit rusted out. Hmmm, can always buys sills though, but that is only the start of this Zeds issues. Quote
Brabham Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Also a 2 seater on ebay, both these are well below your start figure but once you factor in the bodywork... Quote
Stivva Posted November 22, 2009 Author Posted November 22, 2009 Are you talking about the shell on ebay? Or something else? Quote
Sirpent Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 If I had the spare cash at the moment, I would snatch the shell up quicker than you could say "ZED" Looks very rust free, and apart from the LH skirt damage which dosnt look to bad either, its just a matter of hunting down parts, panels are easy as anything from a 2+2 front will fit, there are bound to be doors and a hatch floating around,, and bar the dash board which there are a fair few about what more does it need, the real benefit if the pics are a true indication is the fact that for the better part its rust free in the crucial area's, hell you would spend the better part of $3G's on an average Zed rust rectification and this is a rarer 2 seater.
