::) at wanting to swap a 4door r33 for a perfect condition 240z

the 240 is worth about 2x as much

Yep. 4doors arent worth very much these days at all..

GTR maybe :)

Also did you know the only significant cosmetic difference between the 260 and 240 are the tail lights..

Yep, or R34 GTR....  Never liked the shape of the R33, it has the same problem to me as the S14 - lost the clean lines of the previous model, got fat and lazy, then the following model had plastic surgery to get back to near the previous models shape and looked damned fine again!  Hmmm, sounds like Hollywood....

he prob means a 2+2, so many people dont know 2 seater 260z even existed :s

i read someone in an american forum the other day say that 280z's were the best looking - i dont know what they were smoking, or if every single one he had seen had the bumpers taken off!

i also agree 32>34>33 > than any 4 door - a stagea with an r34 front on the other hand could possibily start rating up there.

i had a closer look at an r34 gtt that was at a dealer the other day, man they are getting cheap! and i was starting to get tempted, then i remembered all the connotations of having one, well mainly of having an r33, but 34's r going to get pretty bad at the price they are....a gtr on the other hand i could deal with :D

s2 r33 4 door rear lights look kinda cool though

Like most people he probably assumes all 260's are 2+2's.

Firstly welcome to the forums, and glad you have "seen the light" wanting to swap your 33 for a s30, so you can't be all that silly.

Go to carsales.com and compare prices for your R33 4dr and a "decent"240Z/ 260Z 2 seater and you'll realize you will need some cash adjustment or the Zed will be a "project". R33's are a dime  a dozen. No one in their right mind would straight swap a decent Zed for your R33, no offense intended.

Good luck on your quest and hope to see you behind the wheel of a S30 soon.

Yes welcome to the nut house.

Unfortunately for your sake I think he's right. The S30 series much like the early Mazda rotaries is going up in value. Your R33 on the other hand is decreasing in value and probably won't start to climb again for another 20 years I'm afraid.

Good luck on your quest and hope to see you behind the wheel of a S30 soon.

The funny thing is about 8 or so years ago when I first got into an S30 people were giving them away. You could still get a 240z for about 2-3k in half good condition. Weird how things change in such a short period of time.

Personally, I don't mind the R33 4-door, it's the coupe that looks a bit 'off' (sorry mum & dad...).

If you need to maintain some semblance of practicality, then you'll probably want to keep the '33. Going to a S30 with no steer, probably no air (well pretty average ventilation at best), less sophisticated brakes and suspension will probably get on your nerves if it's a daily.

I'm not saying 'don't get one', I'm saying consider keeping the '33 (or something similar) to do your daily work, and make the Z a weekender.

I have driven my 240Z as a daily in the past (for several years in fact), and it doesn't take long to desire something less 'special' to do those peak-hour commutes (then I get withdrawal-symptoms, lol).

Hey mate, out of curiosity what's the estimated market value of your car?

around 15000

this car isn't a normal 4 door skyline tuned by Navan witch is a sub company of Nismo but yeh um im sorta keen on any 260z or 240z 2+2 either works just has to be in the same vaule

Woah I had no idea it would fetch that much. I don't think theres a very good chance that anyone will swap their Z for it though. Your target market would most likely be someone who is sick of driving their Z as a daily and rather than buying a second car would be keen to do a swap. I'm pretty sure everyone here sees your skyline as a comfortable quick daily.

I'm getting sick of daily driving my Z, but I just bought a pushbike instead of getting rid of it - such is my love for my car.

Also, the whole thing where Zs are appreciating and the skyline is depreciating is another issue. I dont disagree that your car is equal in present monetary value to a good Z car, but its apples and oranges really.

You may be better off selling your car elsewhere for the $15,000 and then coming back and looking around for a good Z. That price will get you one in decent condition especially if you are quick to reply to for sale ads on this forum and on carsales.

Good luck nonetheless!

I agree with absolutly everything you just said Evan ;)

OMG. I did this step as well. Sold my quite modified r33 and stepped into a 240z. All I can say is, you will find it hard if you're not used to old cars. I loved my zed, was ultra fun and reliable but wasn't stock by any means. Think hard about your choice here. If youthink a skyline is expensive to own and more importantly maintain, wait till you get into one of these fun cars.

Plus don't buy a 240 as it probably be one I want to buy!

I sold my 240z to get a r33- not that long ago on these forums..

Most folks told me not too, as the skyline would go down in value/are too common etc

I really like my r33 - but in different ways to the 240z(or the 5 other s30's ive owned)..

You really cant compare them - as they are two very very different things

but both are seriously good cars.

Try to sell the r33 on carsales/SAU(skyline forums) and buy the best 240z or 260z 2 seater you can.

I own both a 240z and a 280zx. I often ask the question of friends and family and it seems that anyone who is into cars prefers the 240z while the others prefer the 280zx. As for the comment about the USA, don't forget they had the 2 seater 280zx. That roof line makes a whole lot of difference to the styling. I'm not sure I would go so far as saying its nicer than the 240 but the 2 seater 280zx is a lot closer than the 2+2.
