Scoota G Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 We also have the front panels stripped back....Bodywork will start soon. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 An assessment of the two front Valance Panels showed them to be not fit for use so the accident damaged one was flattened and used as a template. The brackets were first drilled out and after the new valance was created and the edges folded it was bolted in place on the sides and then the three brackets were bolted into place and then welded to the new valance. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 14, 2010 Author Posted February 14, 2010 Dale asked for a full length grille so two were made from one. The standard grille has 7 slats so i used the top part of the of one of the grilles to create the bottom of the new grille. Four pieces of 16mm x 16mm aluminium channel were then fabricated to extend the grille the extra three slats we required for the bottom of the grille to meet the top of the Valance. This method uses the original mounting brackets for the top two points and the middle one on the bottom, the two lower side mounting point need to be shifted slightly. The centre of the bumper will be cut out. The new grille also uses the long thin bolts that hold the grille together and can be disassembled. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 This should be the last of the welding. The battery tray was a bit troublesome (rusty) as was the passenger side firewall which was a bit wavy from all the pushing and pulling. There's a pressing in the firewall that goes down the length vertically that i welded a piece of round bar to from the inside and then used that solid point to form the firewall back into shape. Sort of like squeezing it in a vice to get it back to shape... worked a treat. Quote
Scoota G Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 After being stuck in the engine bay repairing the Battery Tray for over a week area it's good to get onto the outer areas of the body... should only take a few more days and we'll take it to get some high fill primer applied. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 24, 2010 Moderators Posted March 24, 2010 When are we going to have another meeting so I can give you some lower control arms? My carrier pidgeon complained about the weight.. Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Wow, congrats on the progress guys, you put some of us to shame . Can't wait to see old Orange back on the road Mark, did you end up spraying this? Either way, I was wondering if I could pick your brain sometime about painting (I'll bring the beer )? I've read a couple of texts and would like to have a chat to decide whether I'm going to give it a shot or just send my shell to someone else. Quote
Scoota G Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Hey thanks for the encouragement guys and Fuzzy we'll have to sit down soon and have a Beer and a chat Took some time out today to clean the garage and take a new photo for Dales Avatar pic. Quote
dalee Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Mx5 seats installed. One of the simplest things so far, used the std Mx5 rails, bit of triming, drill one hole and they are in. They sit very low but clear everything, might have to use some spacers (losing the war on gravity) but time will tell. Quote
MaygZ Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 They look good. I know it's subjective, but are they very comfortable in the Zed? How do they compare to the originals or others you've tried? Love the updates. Keep them coming. Maygs Need to catch up to discuss rails. Quote
dalee Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I think they are more comfortable than the std seats in the other cars. I will drop them into Red shortly and go for a drive, should be able to set the tokico shocks to 5 and have some fun. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 Hey i'm back. After a couple of months constructing a Large (7.4 meters by 10 meter) industrial type shed for somone else we're back to get this puppy painted. Searching around town for someone to paint it has proved pointless as we were told next year for project cars. So i'll finish the body work n lay down some primer/ filler at Dales and then we will hire a Booth and i will do the gun work in 2Pac. Stay tuned. Here's a couple of pics of the HPC coated headers that were done a couple of weeks ago. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 Ha going to steal my own thread here, all in a good cause but. Fitting the HPC coated headers back to Dales Red Zed today. Just painting the heat sheild at my place ATM. Enjoy Dale. (PS; would have been nice if you left the keys) :S Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 28, 2010 Moderators Posted May 28, 2010 Finger licking good...KFC style.. Dale, can you wait till the meeting for the suspension arms? Quote
dalee Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Not a lot happening ATM. Unless you count problems, clutch master on Red died, and Yellow decided to destroy the rings (large clouds of oil smoke out the exhaust, and I mean large) cyl 4,5 & 6. The car has always been a slug so a rebuild was always on the cards. Will have to try the engine in the parts car and see if we car get that one to fire. Quote
